Weary Pastor
At best, a night's rest
The difference between your dirty laundry and someone else's dirty laundry is ginormous. While attending a seminar in Fort Wayne I elected to stay at a local hotel. The room was dated but clean...or so I thought. After playing my mandatory sudoku game I shut my eyes and went to sleep. Morning came (as it usually does) and it was time to prepare for the day. Showering is part of my day's preparation (yes, say, "Thank You, Jesus"). As I pulled back the shower curtain something fell upon my arm. It was a stiff, soiled washcloth that had been left by the previous guest and missed by the maid service. Urrrp! I was very hesitant to step into the shower. Was it clean? Were the sheets on the bed changed? Would the towels be sanitary or not? Yuccccccck. But I had to get ready (I obviously didn't want to stay). So I prayed, stepped into the shower and quickly finished what I came to do--get clean. I thoroughly investigated the towels. The manager at the front desk was visibly upset when I told her of my experience. She reduced the cost of the room by $11 (I would have preferred it to have been 100%). Touching someone else's dirty laundry is disgusting. Dirt is dirt. Yet my dirt is my dirt and my dirt is more acceptable than your dirt. But you know what...that does not work with sin. Sin is sin but my sin is not more acceptable or worse than your sin. We should be as disgusted about sin as I was with that crunchy, crispy washcloth. Only when we see sin as the most disgusting, despicable thing will we effectively reckon it for what it is. So learn from my experience...
