Extended Stay America - Evansville - East

I'm not usually picky when on a budget. I figured since I'm getting a kitchen for a pretty low price, probably can't complain too much. But the kitchen had all of one bowl and 2 forks and one butter knife. Plus couple other basics. But when actually trying to make even a small basic meal, I found it difficult. They charge to clean it if you leave it dirty which normally wouldn't bother me to clean, but there were no good cleaning supplies to do so. Also the two lights in the place were old and so dim it made it difficult to see what I was even doing past sundown. Oh, and no continental breakfast. Don't pretty much all hotels have a complimentary breakfast these days? I guess since there are kitchens in the room they figure why bother, but good luck trying to cook in them. On the plus side, plenty of restaurants in close distance.

Although no one ever mentioned it to us ahead of time, the entire first floor was under construction and being repainted. The place was a wreck and the overwhelming paint fumes made my eyes water. When I asked if we could have a room on the second floor, I was told I was getting the last room in the entire hotel, so....no. The room was HUGE and had a full kitchen, fridge, stove, oven, everything. That was the best part. It wen down hill from there. My list of complaints: 1. The bathroom tile and entire floor where it met the tub was cracked, broken and gross. 2. The air conditioner went through power surges ALL NIGHT and was so loud it woke me up EVERY SINGLE TIME! 3. The entire room reeked of paint smell from the hallway. 4. The lights were tremendously dim, and two of the lamps didn't work, or had burned out bulbs. 5. The sleeper sofa mattress was like a taco and there was no choice but to sleep dead in the middle, in the valley. 6. I got the "spare" sheet set and blanket from the closet for the sleeper sofa, and the blanket had multiple cigarette burns on it (in my non smoking room). Overall, not a chance I'd stay there again. I want my money back.

Room was pretty ok for the price.. my only complaint was that the room was supposed to be non-smoking, but smelled like it had been smoked in. Conveyed that to the front desk staff, and they confirmed it was a non-smoking room but said they couldn't gtee anyone hadn't smoked in there, and mentioned they didn't have a replacement room available. Noticed too, that there was no sign designating it as a non-smoking room (though other rooms did have the sign), and it had an ashtray in it. Oh well - lived with it (and heard about it from my spouse) as we didn't have to spend too much time there, and alternatives were thin. I'd say other than that, the place was up to expectation otherwise for the $. One other very positive was the room-size. There was plenty of space.

The bath tubs swueek like someone creaking in an old chair and the sound carries.. nothing to be done about that. The fridge in the room (never opened it, didn't need it) thunked whenver the compressor kicken in. When checking out I check around the room and under the bed.... crumbs and packages they were not mine. They did comp a night, but I still wouldn't ever stary there again.
