Don't judge by the outside appearance
When my wife and I pulled into the parking lot my wife said "Uh oh." This is the only reason it got a four and not a five. Please do not judge this hotel by the outside appearance. From the outside it is not appealing and appears very old. But once inside it is wonderful. Very clean, great staff, and very comfortable rooms. Very close to all of the Lincoln stuff. Only suggestion, in the bar have a local brewery available. Wonderful job Statehouse! Thank you.

Great Route 66 Hotel
Good rooms and breakfast is free buffet style. Was disappointed on the reception we received from the manager but the following day a different manager and a different atmosphere. Good sized room and local to downtown and tourist spots

Lincoln attractions
Within walking distance to most museums. Great breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful. Bed was a little too soft for our comfort but otherwise excellent.

No complaints
Over all, my stay was great. The room was quiet, the bed comfortable. I didn't care for the complimentary breakfast very much. The fruit seemed to be...canned? frozen? I wasn't sure, but by appearances, it wasn't fresh or seasonal. The coffee was a little weak and bitter, and the bagel was sub-par. I didn't want to wait in line for any of the other offerings. If you skip the breakfast and go somewhere else, you'll be happier.

So Hip!
I was just looking for an affordable place near the State Fair Grounds. The State House in was not only convenient and better than the average hotel, it was very hip with its mid-century modern decor. An added surprise was the complementary breakfast in the morning. We travel to Springfield a couple times a year, and I would definitely stay at the State House again.

Great Location and dreamy beds
I chose this hotel primarily for it's location in downtown. I was planning to visit the Lincoln Museum and the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Dana Thomas house. And this was really the best hotel within walking distance of both. But it also had the free breakfast, parkikng, and Wi-Fi which were all on my list of must-haves. The mid-century modern decor of the lobby and rooms was a pleasant suprise. The beds were partickularly comfortable. The room was farily small as were the towels, but perfectly acceptable. I have no complaints. And we could even leave our car in the parking after we checked out while we did our sight-seeing.

Short walk from hotel
Do not miss the Dana Thomas house in Springfield. It gives you a glimpse into what the world might have been if all of Frank Lloyd Wright's clients had an unlimited budget and compulsion to entertain large crowds of people. By itself it makes a trip to Springfield worh while. ] The Lincoln Library is just icing on the cake. Extremely well thought out and displayed and easy to see the whole thing in 3 hours or less.

An Excellent Choice
The State House Inn is a great choice for a visitor to Springfield, IL, especially one to visit any of the downtown's historical venues or to see the state capitol. The SH Inn's rooms and amenities are very good, and the staff is outstanding. Since the hotel lobby and bar are relatively small, a person enterting the hotel might feel as though the wedding reception guests haveovertaken the hotel, but the Inn is highly recommended. I have stayed there several times and plan to be there again.

Great beds
The legislature wasn't in session--the downtown was dead on a Thursday. It would be nice if there was food in the bar-popcorn only. Clean and quiet, friendly staff, very comfortable beds; Simmons model.
