Not Again!
We stayed at this hotel because it advertised that it was dog friendly! After $25 dollars more, they were. The staff was friendly and let me take a look at the room which I appreciated. The train was very noisy most of the night and I was concerned about our safety and whether we would have a vehicle in the morning. There were no restaurants in the near vicinity.

Decent place for a sleep
Needed a dog-friendly hotel that was clean, safe, and quiet for a night's sleep. The price wasn't too bad and they offer breakfast in the morning, so I booked it. The bathroom was not very clean. I took a shower and found somebody else's hair still on the shower walls, and when I got out of the shower I discovered hair on the back of the bathroom door. In the middle of the night I walked into the bathroom and found a huge spider on the floor. The next morning my mom used the bathroom before we left and said there was a cricket in there. The rest of the room seemed clean enough, just the bathroom was pretty gross.

Great for the price!
Wonderful for the price. It was only *blocks* away from many of the historical & governmental buildings that could be toured. We had 3 adults & we shared a 2 double bed room. There was a living room area with sofa, chairs, table & chairs, refrigerator, microwave, TV and it's own separate air conditioning unit There was the bedroom area separated from the living area by a hall (U-shaped layout) with 2 double beds, bath (a little small w/o a fan), TV, air conditioning unit & end tables of course. It was not 5 star or anything but it was clean and comfortable. Just the proximity (walking distance) to so much of what Springfield has to offer was absolutely great! I could have happily stayed another 2 days there [...]!!!

Good for what it is
I was there for business. Arrived on a Monday night and left Tuesday afternoon. All in all the hotel was just fine for the price. The bed was comfortable, the room spacious and the location was great. It is close to the capitol, the Amtrak station and everything else in "Downtown" Springfield. The desk staff was very helpful and polite. Unfortunately, there are very few places to eat or to do anything, for that matter, in the city after 8pm, but I didn't expect it. The only complaint that I have is that the shower had poor water pressure and reminded me of being in a cabin in northern Wisconsin. Also, the shampoo and body wash packets were almost impossible to open, especially with wet hands, and there were no soap dishes. Also no vent fans in the bathroom. Oh, and one more minor detail, the room had a distinct smell that got on all of my clothes and that was noticeable each time I went into the room. Overall, for the price, the hotel is worth it.

Short walk from hotel
Hotel is 3 blocks from the Amtrak station, very convenient. Be sure to go SOUTH on 4th street and don't make the mistake I did and go north and end up walking a mile back to the right place.

Great location
Really enjoyed my stay at the Mansion View; will do it again. So close to all the downtown attractions. I actually prefer an "older" motel like this one, and again, such a super location makes it a no-brainer if you're hitting downtown Springfield for whatever reason.

Watching the Ladies
I was in town to watch the LPGA State Farm Classic. I was able to make it two years ago (2009) and had also stayed at the Mansion View. That is primarily why I returned to this property. For the price, it is unmatched. The service is excellent and the rooms are clean and well furnished(I have been lucky enough to have been upgraded TWICE to King suites). While not that close to the venue I was attending, the property is situated in the heart of downtown Springfield and all that it has to offer--touristy stuff, food, and drinks. If my journeys take me through Springfield again, I will most definately stay at the Mansion View.

About 2-3 blocks from the hotel is a place called Gallina's...go there. A little mom and pop pizzaria which is awesome and always busy, so plan ahead (all the locals seem to go there)

Yuck
The hotel was old and rundown. We were supposed to stay for 5 nights and we only stayed for one and got out of there. The hotels were small, ants were in the shower and the bathrooms were right next to the bed itself. The TV didnt work. I was scared for my car in the parking lot because it was the only one there and it didnt seem to be on the safe side of town. I would never come to this hotel again. Not recommended.
