Not the worst place I've stayed

It wasn't bad. Clean. Free breakfast. Near some really good Asian restaurants in the Chicago suburbs. Got what we paid for.

Stinky room, otherwise great

When we arrived, we were hit by an overwhelming perfume smell. There was no plug in air freshener, and the sheets weren't too bad, but it really permeated the room so I don't know what it was. Fortunately, our room had a balcony (!) so we just opened that door and our front door to get a good crossbreeze which reduced it to tolerable (we had to keep reopening it each day though). We tried the A/C once but it smelled too moldy to use so we just lived without it. We could have kept the balcony open for cool air but that would have been too loud. So the stink was a downside, and the walls are pretty thin, but it was cheap, the bed was comfy, it came with a fridge and microwave and TV, I LOVED the balcony, it had a pool, staff were mostly friendly, and overall I thought it was a good deal, certainly compared to the nicer hotel up the road which cost twice as much.

Money-saving tip: Long walk from hotel

It's a mile walk to the Yellow Line Dempster stop, which makes it easy to get into the city without having to drive.

Good, but some disappointment

First, contrary to some reviews I have seen, the facility was clean and welcoming, and pretty quiet - especially considering its location on a major thoroughfare. However, don't depend on the free wi-fi being available, because for more than half of our 3 night stay, it was not. Also, what they describe as a queen bed is in reality a double or full. As for the breakfast, the variety was ok, but the scrambled eggs seemed to actually be made of rubber; after the first morning I stuck with the waffles and oatmeal. There was also cold cereal available, as well as yoghurt, bagels, and fresh fruit, so a reasonable meal could be had, so long as you did not have your heart set on scrambled eggs.

Great for overnight stay

Staff was helpful, and I got a room upgrade because I was "The guest of the day"! Very close to the mall and many eating options.

Conventient Location after Cub's Game

The hotel is within a couple miles from the Skokie Swift station and there are multiple restaurants and shipping nearby. Staff was friendly and hotel was quiet in the executive tower. The hot breakfast in the morning which included a waffle iron was a great bonus!

Just to spend the night

Clean although not the carpet. Neat bathroom. Noisy roof on a rainy night.

Good value

Here's what I liked: -- Pleasant, helpful staff -- Free, reliable Wi-Fi throughout the property -- Location within walking distance of a large mall with many dining options and other services, and within an easy drive of many other excellent restaurants and attractions -- Less than a half-hour's drive from O'Hare Airport -- Large, heated swimming pool and a small room with exercise equipment -- The price was reasonable. Here's what could be better: -- The guest-access computer's printer isn't wireless, making it inconvenient to print from a laptop. -- The guest-access computer and printer are in the lobby, so there's not much privacy. A separate room would be preferable. -- The hot and cold breakfast options are unimaginative. And if you arrive toward the end of breakfast service, it can be hard to find a table. -- This two-floor building has no elevator. This didn't bother me -- the desk clerk offered to carry my suitcase upstairs for me when I arrived, and I like using the stairs for a bit of exercise anyway -- but it might be a problem for some guests.

Entertainment tip: Short drive from hotel

Evanston SPACE, at Dempster Street and Chicago Avenue in Evanston (about 15 minutes' drive east of the hotel), is a great, intimate concert venue surrounded by excellent restaurants: Try Dozika, a Pan-Asian restaurant and sushi bar on the corner diagonally opposite SPACE; and Blind Faith Cafe, a vegetarian restaurant just east of Chicago Avenue on Dempster.
