Good hotel for the price
The hotel is a little outdated but the room was excellent. It was spacious and had all the necessary amenities I thought including a microwave, fridge, coffee maker, and balcony. The chairs on the balcony looked like they were from the 70s but they at least had chairs out there. The closets had no doors on them but they were pretty hidden from the rest of room. The shower was nice and roomy with a curved shower rod and two sinks, one in the bathroom and one right outside which helped when there are two people getting ready at the same time. The pool was excellent , the water was so warm it felt like a getting into a warm bath. The only downside to the pool was the lack of pool towels. The restaurant that they advertise has been closed down for some time now which was a little disappointing. But overall I have stayed at places a little pricier than this one and never had such a wonderful stay. I would definitely stay there again.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
Little ceasars, taco bell, cvs pharmacy was just a short drive down 11th. Little ceasars has some good pizza which you can get for a decent price. There's also a pizza hut the same distance if you prefer.

Staff was amazing
Even though this hotel is in a dead part of town, the service was awesome. The rooms were clean and the pool was great too. We had a good time, would definitely recommend.

Not so much!
We weren't there long. Checked in, went into our room, it was very dark, dank and, was not a relaxing environment at all! We turned around and check out. The area wasn't the best area either (industrial), nothing around. Hotel issues too with people that lived in the hotel and police were there. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room was adequate for our needs.
Attended cousins wedding in the area. Location was easy to find with GPS. Will be more careful in the future & take note of motel ratings, as I didn't notice this only had a 2+ rating when making the reservations. However, it served the purpose of a nights rest sufficiently.

Howard Johnson's Rockford, IL SUCKS
To be clear, I did not expect the Waldorf-Astoria at $50/night; we were traveling on a budget. However, the hotel was not very clean and is quite rundown. The real problem though was the absolutely overpowering oder of cleaning disinfectant in the hallways and the room. Not bad enough, the situation was made worse by the fact that the balcony sliding door would not open and this was our only access to fresh air. In spite of being up for 23 hours when I checked in, I was unable to sleep at all. My wife woke up coughing, with a migraine, a red puffy face and swollen eyes. All in all, A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE !!!

Bad Hotel=Bad Trip
We just stayed the night because we were in town for a concert. We were looking forward to swimming and going in the hot tub but the pool area was really dirty and the hot tub was out of order indefinatly. The room was dirty and the heater/air condition blew out a nasty stench. This is not like any other other Howard Johnson I had visited. The lady at the front desk was nice and helpful at least.

My review.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The pool was a little chilly. The hot tub wasn't working. The resturant next door, there was no one other than the staff there. The food was very good though. I might stay there again, but I would go there to eat.

Rebuilding
Hotel is located in an industrial area. Seems to have been very nice at one time but currently in need of renovation which seems to be in progress. Restaurant was very nice and a Lounge to open soon. The pool area was large and comfortable and it had a game room. Tennis courts overgrown with weeds. The room was clean and for the price reasonable. I had the feeling this was a hotel, reasonably priced for now, with upside potential
