The absolute worst
This was a terrific location for me so I gave it a shot. However, by far and away the worst hotel stay I've ever had in my life. I was put in a room the size of a broom closet, facing the alley way of the building. Suffice to say all I heard was every imaginable noise from garbage being dragged, to people talking, to cars and trucks driving back and forth, to a whole host of other things that were driving me to drink. My window would not close all the way so the noise was unavoidable.

A Fine Hotel
I have chosen this hotel every time I visit the area. The location is very close to nice shopping and to some fine little restaurants. I've stayed there so many times I'd feel a little guilty staying anywhere else! The breakfast in the Hilton's Globe restaurant is always pleasant, and the staff at the front desk is exceptional! Meeting for a drink before dinner is also very pleasant in the generous lobby.

Short walk from hotel
A small shoe and accessory boutique is just across the street. I believe it is family-owned, and the service is always cordial. Also, a French bistro is a short walk. It is truly French. From the nice wine selection to the delicious entrees and desserts, you will not be disappointed in the food or the prices.Bistro Bordeaux,,on Church St.

Disappointed
Even after calling to let the hotel know that we would be arriving late in the day, they sold our room and had nothing available for the 4 of us on the first night. As compensation they did provide breakfast. They did provide us with an appropriate room the second night but amenities and bathroom supplies were not provided.

Great location, great price
I went to the Chicago area to see my son present his first technical paper at a national conference downtown. The hotel is in a great location within Evanston. However, it's a long 1 1/2 hour subway ride to downtown Chicago. There were a large variety of shops, restaurants, quick eats, a pharmacy, the subway, and commuter train station all within walking distance. The Evanston library is directly across the street. It looked like it has multiple levels. There was a used bookstore adjacent to the hotel and a multi-level Barnes and Noble bookstore around the corner. I felt safe walking alone at night as a single female. There were a lot of people walking around in the evening during midweek in August. The front desk staff was courteous and helped me quickly. My room was comfortable and spacious. The bathroom was small but decorated nicely in a modern decor. There was complimentary wifi, which was slow but worked. I took the subway from O'Hare airport to the hotel. It only cost $2.25 one way but it took 2 1/2 hours during midday on a Wednesday. So, beware.

Meh
The title of this review says it all... "Meh." The hotel was okay. We stayed there because we attended a wedding reception at the hotel. For the price we paid, I thought we'd get a lot more. The bathrooms are tiiiiiiiiiny. Also, make sure you're aware that you have to valet your car for $22 each day. Our room was small and had old sunflower seeds underneath the bed. The bed was very comfortable though. The air conditioner is very loud (NOT central air conditioning), and the carpet looked old and worn. We went to a wedding in the large ballroom. The ballroom is nice, although the last step down from the banister is camouflaged into the rest of the carpet making it very huge trip hazard. They have a business center where you can print out your airline boarding passes for free. The best part about this hotel is the location: walking distance to restaurants, shops, Northwestern University, Lake Michigan, etc. Even though the location was prime, I wouldn't stay here again. I think you can get a lot more room and better service for your money elsewhere in the area.

COMFORTABLE, CLEAN, CONVENIENT
WE STAYED HERE, WHILE VISITING NORTHWESTERN. PERFECT LOCATION...2 BLOCKS FROM THE UNIVERSITY, AND RIGHT IN THE HEART OF EVANSTON. THE VALET STAFF WERE THE BEST...VERY HELPFUL & FRIENDLY. THE GLOBE RESTAURANT, IN THE HOTEL, SERVED EXTREMELY GOOD MEALS, AND WELL PRICED. OVERALL, WE WOULD ABSOLUTELY STAY THERE AGAIN.
