What a great city
I stayed at the Garden Inn Hilton in downtown Evanston and all I can say is "What a great city!" To be able to walk down the streets any time of the day or night and feel safe was so nice. There was an incredible number of wonderful restauants from chain to local, casual to top grade steak house, and what a selection of quizines. Add having a beautiful neighborhood and park right beside the water, all within a short walking distance... great.

Great experience
The Hilton Garden Inn was perfectly located in Evanston - centrally located to shops, restaurants, movies in downtown Evanston, and close enough to the north side of Chicago for a couple trips into the city. Facility was clean and spacious. Personnel was pleasant and professional. The pool was smaller than the kids would have liked, but they used it three times anyway! We had a great stay and would highly recommend this hotel.

Great place in Evanston
My second stay, conveniently located to visit colleges in that area and very easy access to transportation to see just about everything. Staff accommodating with random questions.

Our room was disgusting. The toilet was not cleaned, the shower head was falling out of the wall, the shower curtain had mold, the tub stopper was broken. Worse than that, was that we could hear our neighbors do everything in their bathroom. And I do mean everything. The wall are very thin. The night time staff was very dismissive and rude. Made assumptions that we knew things like where to park or what the wireless passwords were and we received arrogant answers when we asked about them. Next, it was a holiday weekend and the hot tub had no water in it. Finally, little things like shower kits or wine screws are not complementary. Probably the best value was the location, right in the heart of downtown. Easy in and out of the parking garage. The restaurant in the lobby has a pretty good breakfast and at reasonable price. The options were different daily, which was nice.

Great Hotel
The hotel was right next to a parking garage and had validated parking for all day in and out access. The room was very clean and had an amazing bed that you could adjust the firmness of each side. The bathroom was very spacious and had a very nice Granite vanity. No vent fan in the bathroom which would of been nice but the shower was extremely clean, nice tile, great shower head with perfect water pressure and had the bowed shower curtain for the extra arm room. The TV was an HD LCD television and had local HD stations, HBO in HD and ESPN HD, plus a standard range of SD cable channels. The floors were very clean and the sheets were comfortable and clean as well. The view out of our room was of a parking lot and a roof top but they did have a big Farmers Market on Saturday so that was fun to watch out the window. The Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and remembered me and what room I was staying in. They have a great selection of sodas and snacks in their pantry, including Ice-cream that was easily charged to my room when I wanted something. They also have a business center so I could print my boarding passes for free. They had a great breakfast bar on the morning with a waiting staff that would do anything for you. Fresh omelets and waffles were made for you on the spot and they had an array of fresh fruit, cereals, juices, drinks, meats and potatoes. The location is perfect, in walking distance of so many shops and eateries and also the other hotels in the area which was helpful since I was there for a friends wedding at another hotel.

Be transit savvy
We wanted to go to the Navy Pier in Chicago, the taxi service TOOK us there but would not go there to get us. We could not find a taxi in Chicago to bring us back. I called the desk here and the woman told us what transit station to try to get to(which we couldn't find because a lot of the roads were closed off due to the filming of Transformers 3). The desk lady was extremely helpful though in letting us know what stops to get off at and what line to transfer to once we did find the transit station. My family and I really appreciated that and when we got back to the hotel at almost 2 a.m. we thanked her for being so kind, patient and knowledgeable with us. So if you stay here and want to go to Chicago MAKE sure you know the transit stations, DO NOT rely on the taxi services!!!

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
Take the transit, its a short walk from the hotel and is about $30 cheaper than a taxi ride into Chicago, and a lot more reliable than a taxi ride. Make sure you have a MAP though of the transit lines!!

Great location for Northwestern parents
I've resisted staying here last couple of trips up because the rates always jump when Northwestern has parents-oriented activities, including Parents Weekend and Orientation. This time, at the end of the school year, rates were 40% less, which made it worthwhile.
