A Disappointment...

I expected a lot more, especially after reading the reviews and seeing the photos online. The hotel check-in was very unwelcoming, the staff acted as if they couldn't be bothered, not a warm welcome at all. The housekeeping starts at 8AM in the hallway, and you can hear EVERYTHING. It's as if your door is wide open, no sound proofing at all. The parking is $38/night (outrageous!), and the room service is VERY expensive for mediocre food. The restaurant is also overpriced, didn't find the food to be that great. There is a very noisy "sky bar" on the top floor, but you can hear it from several floors down (again, soundproofing issues). I found the room to be quite small, reminded me of a NYC hotel room. The hotel looks fairly trendy, but along with that comes attitude from the staff and $$$ things along the way. I will not stay here again.

Chicago get-a-away

The concept of being a "Boutique hotel" was exemplified to the max. The decor was sleak and stylish but the rooms were quite displeasing. The rooms were small with unfinished concrete ceilings, which unfortunately were complemented by a strange repugnant odor that emitted from the concrete every time the A/C turned off. In addition, climate control inside the room was by far the worse I've ever experienced. I would not recommend hotel and I would certainly never revisit.

June in Chicago

While physically striking, the Dana is not what I consider user friendly. beginning with the check-in on the second floor. No signage to be found to direct guests there, and staff in the restaurant not quick to help. The young lady at the desk left much to be desired in hospitality. Those of you that book this hotel on Orbitz, please be aware that the rooms you view on the website ARE NOT the rooms you will be staying in. Yes, the room was small. While that is not an issue (the bed and shower were fantastic), I do not relish false advertisement. The "Cozy King" boasts nothing more than a door to a small balcony that overlooks practically nothing. Very active due to the Vertigo lounge on the roof and sometimes quite noisy.

not as good as last year with smaller staff and breakfast was a disaster. Too few personnel and I think everyone in the restaurant received half of what they ordered.

would be great except for the noise

The location is very central. Close to shopping and not far from the museums. Although the room was lovely, the lack of soundproofing is a problrm. I would not stay in this hotel again.

Chicago with Friends

The Dana was in an excellent location near the Magnificent Mile. The bell service, concierge and breakfast servers were excellent. The continental breakfast was very nice. The bed and bathroom were nice. The reception desk did not inform us about breakfast, how the elevators work and where the elevators were located. These seem like the routine info all guests need. the wireless internet got a very weak signal or didn't work at all which was of great importance everyday to us. The hotel staff was unresponsive or unable to fix it. The hotel did have 2 computers for guest use but in a very dark, hard to read area.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

The sightseeing bus advertises that it takes 1 1/2 hours but it took 3 hours the Sat we went. It gave us an overview of the city but it is more efficient to take a city bus once you decide which sights you'd like to see. Chicago was a beautiful city with many things to see for adults and children. The city is clean but we rarely saw police. Just about every place we went the people were helpful and friendly. We used the airport shuttle to get to and from the airport. It was fine when arriving at the airport but we were very anxious waiting to return to the airport. Next time we will take a cab back to the airport since we'll have more control over the time we leave. Unfortunately it will be more costly both ways.

good location,noisy @night

Staff was friendly, but at night lots of street noise, mostly a party type hotel.people stayed up all hours of the night, and you could hear them with the doors banging at 4 or 5 in the morning. Took us 45mins to check in upon arrival which was at 11pm. We had a late flight. The next day the key card wouldn't work, and had to go to desk to reactivate it. We did get to see blue man group, as we arranged tickets through the hotel concierge.

Disappointed.

We were disappointed by our stay at the Dana. The room was very small and dark: There were no windows, and the only sunlight and view was via a small door to a small balcony. In fact, the room was so small that there wasn't a dresser for your clothes. The doormen, the front desk and the bellmen were terrific, but when we ask a staffer on our floor for a coffee cup, we were told by him to go downstairs to get one, instead of taking it upon himself to help us. We have stayed in numerous Chicago hotels and, for the money, it was disappointing.
