Winter Vacation

This was a great place for a younger couple. It is a short walk to Michigan Avenue and many great restaurants are within easy walking distance.

Nightlife tip: Long walk from hotel

Signature Room in Hancock Tower. This is a little pricy but has the best views in Chicago from either the 95th or 96th floor, depending on whether you are eating or simply there for a cocktail.

Everything I Needed

After a tough flight/schedule getting into Chicago, arriving at The W was just what I needed. The atmosphere and the people set things right and before too long I was relaxed and ready to take in the sites and sounds of the city. The W on Lakeshore is located within walking distance of Rush St. and the Navy Pier, and the view from the 26th floor was awesome from both sides of the building - my room looked out over the city, and while waiting for the elevators you get an awesome view of the pier with its ferris wheel and other oddities. After I was settled, I walked to Hugo's Frog Bar on Rush and took in a fantastic meal while watching the MLB home run derby - Big Papi and Gonzalez were in contention until Cano broke it open. The steak was OUTSTANDING and the service was great. Definitely needed the walk back to the hotel after that. All in all, great experience at The W.

Kat

Navy Pier, parks, Michigan Ave are all just steps away. Spend the extra money for a lake view room - awesome. Whiskey Sky is small and intimate.

W - Lakeshore

Upgraded room upon check in. Lake View. Beautiful sunrise (remember to close the shades when you go to bed!). Turkey club at the bar was good. We used the free Acura car that evening - the pitch was annoying - we expected it - but it wasn't all that instrusive. Business center is expensive but very reliable and accessible. All in all, a great experience.

Great location

Very lively hotel in great part of town. Easily can walk to Navy Pier, Ohio St beach, Michigan avenue. Close to 2 really good breakfast places. Did not try hotel restaurant. Desk and concierge were extremely helpful, friendly, efficient. Overall vibe of the hotel was excellent: most staff and guests were neat, young, energetic. Very lively lobby scene. Easy to get cabs. room was not the Four Seasons, but decor was up to date and modern. Room was clean. Bathroom excellent. Decent size flat screen TV and wireless internet. Gym average, but all equipment seemed new and well maintained. Indoor pool looked OK but did not use it.

W Chicago - Lakeshore: great, per usual

Staff was great, as they always are at the W Hotels. Great fitness center, awesome location. Looking forward to using the pool but it was filled with lots of kids running crazy - wasn't expecting a little YMCA going on at the W :) Rest of the stay was top-notch.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Take the train from the airport to the Clark/Lake stop, then jump in a short cab to the hotel. Easiest way to get there and avoid traffic.

Chicago - May 2009

The hotel was great, service was great and the price was right. The view was only of the next building - but at half the price well worth it.

Location is everything !

It was a great bargain ! right on the lake ! staff was great and excellent free car service by Acura! wonderful view of the lake from our room. Only negative thing was they nickle and dime you to use the business room. Would definitely stay there again.

Comfortable, trendy place to stay

This hotel is beautifully decorated. The lobby is always very lively. The elevators smell good. The bed is incredibly comfortable. There was no bathtub, only a shower. The negative aspects were that there was no coffee pot in the room (although there is complementary coffee in the lobby.) Also, the breakfast and all other food is VERY expensive. I guess they want you to get out and enjoy the food of the city.

Upscale and Friendly Staff!

Right from the time we arrived we were greeted with very friendly staff. The decor in the lobby and the room was very upscale. Our room was clean and had an incredible view of lake Michigan and Navy Pier. The down side was that the bathroom had a sliding door that had a gap in it as well as a window in the bathroom wall facing the living area that only had wood shutters on it. This was not very private when sharing a room with 3 other people! The pool was kind of small and had no hot tub. the Bliss spa had great services although they were sort of pricey for what you got. Overall a great experience!!
