Anniversary weekend

The hotel was great. Great restaurant. Great Bar. Rooms were very nice. The only very minor thing I would change is that the coffee service ends at 9am...maybe go another hour. The hotel and location are great

The Thompson Hotel Chicago was wonderful and very convenient to where we wanted to be. Very quiet room and the jr. suite offered just enough seating where we could comfortably host several visitors during our stay.

Lovely stay thanks to friendly staff

From the moment I checked in at the Thompson, my stay was a pleasure! Because my room had been switched from a king to a dual-queen arrangement, the reception staff comped my party breakfast in Osteria Nico the next morning. This turned out to be a $60 value, and incredibly delicious. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, warm and welcoming. We were remembered from our evening dining in Osteria Nico to the next day. All of our needs were met and it felt like a pleasure just to hang out at the hotel. The hotel itself is very chic; small enough to feel like a boutique hotel but nicely appointed and decorated to feel very high-quality. The only, and I mean only, complaint we had was that the shower temperature never reached hot enough temperatures for comfort. Because of the open nature of the stall, not enough heat was retained and so lack of piping hot water made the showering situation somewhat uncomfortable. That having been said, we will be going back again, and soon. Thank you!

surprise

I travel alot and have spent much time in cookie cutter hotel rooms all over the world- this was a very pleasant exception - great staff at check in, comfortable lobby, and a big room, modern with many amenities - especially size - room for a couch, large Samsung TV, huge bathroom - and comfortable bed - a real treat for someone jaded by hotel stays - highly recommended

Great stay

Spent two night stay after long weekend in Chicago for the Marathon. Stayed at another hotel for a higher rate over the weekend and was very dissatisfied from a customer service perspective. However, the Thompson made for a beautiful stay. The concierge and bell staff were wonderful. The in hotel restaurant provided fantastic drinks and a wonderful breakfast for a fair price. The room was spacious, clean and well-decorated. The view was lovely, even despite the rainy Chicago skyline. The bathroom was better than expected. There was no breakfast service other than the restaurant or room-service, but there was a morning coffee/tea service downstairs which was excellent. It did close a little too early (9am), but appropriate for business visits.

Great hotel, skip the restaurant

The staff of the hotel was wonderful, the room comfortable, the location great. The restaurant was, however, very unfriendly and attempted to overcharge me by $36 on what was already $116 for one meal. The hotel staff, though, fixed it. The doormen were the highlight as they couldn't be more welcoming and attentive!

The "NEW" Sutton Place

This is the ultimate location! We were very disappointed when the Sutton Place closed but The Thompson has done a lovely remodel (a few things we liked the old way better) and this will be our new home away from home when we are in Chicago! It is very comfortable and amenities are great. The only real negative is the outrageous parking prices!

Superbly located hotel

This hotel is ideally located with a great range of restaurants, bars and cafés within easy walking distance. Not too noisy at night either. It's a lovely neighbourhood and close to the lake and beach. We walked everywhere and had no need to take taxis although a comfortable pair of shoes are a must! Our room on the 9th floor had a lake view (just) and was spacious and comfortable. Maid service was faultless. Although complementary tea/coffee was available every morning it would have been nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room - $20 for a pot of tea via room service seemed a bit extreme!
