Wrigley Field Trip

We picked this hotel because of its proximity to Wrigley Field. It was a clean room with comfortable beds and a great shower. The walk down Clark St. to this hotel from Wrigley is a 1 mile walk. We made the trip after a night game and felt safe. I would stay here again without hesitation.

You're Buying The Neighborhood

I take overnight stays in Chicago all the time -- we're from Chicago, and go "downtown" for weekends five or six times per year. Here's the quick review. The area is fantastic, five stars. The hotel is a dump. It's clean, but it's a dump. Our usual hangout is the Mag Mile, from which we then trip out to other areas for food, shopping and entertainment. This weekend we decided to stay in the area to which we usually end up going at some point in the day. The hotel is located between Clark and Broadway and just North of Diversey. If you're interested in a variety of food, of all ethnic backgrounds, from family friendly Amnerican Bistro's to a creperie - if you'e looking for candy shops, bakeries, or high end clothing, custom clothing, or basic daywear - if you are looking for novelty, culture and love to walk around to live music venues and theatre, this is the area for you. Oh yeah, Lincoln Park, the Zoo, and the lake are a ten minute walk away, too. But the hotel -- it's small, cramped, needs a serious update, and has no ambiance whatsoever. For instance, they lock the front door at 9pm on weekdays. The room has only a window air conditioner. The bathroom is about 3 feet by 10 feet and looks about like the spare bathroom in my basement. The bed is beyond it's useful life, and the linen is Wal Mart quality. I'm not sayind this is bad, there is nothing wrong with ordinary. The problem is I paid $400 for the room. That same $400 would have bought me a very elegant stay at any number of Mag Mile hotels. The Willow is a Motel 6 quality hotel in the heart of an amazing and vibrant neighborhood. On the plus side, the staff, every one of them, was courteous and professional. The hotel was very clean, including the doll house sized bathroom.

Five great restaurants minutes from the front door - don't waste money on a cab - everything you need is a short walk away.

If this was a three star, others are four star

This hotel is mostly make up. Nice looking on the outside so so on the inside. Hotel is old, wallpaper falling off the walls and the trim used to cover the damage was even cheaper cut up pieces of plywood, shower curtain rod falling off the wall. Room was extremely tiny for the price bathroom just as small. For this price I would stay elsewhere. We stayed in area a couple monthes ago in a different area at a much nicer hotel for the same price right off the main strip. Which had a sitting room and bedroom with a king size bed. Also when the desk clerk handed us the bill it was thirty dollar cheaper then what you charged us.

Willows Hotel

The staff is very nice and accommodating, and the location is great, but my room was very small and cramped. It did not have any place to hang my coat, to place objects, or to sit down. The top of the small refrigerator (honor bar) was covered with snacks for sale--that would have been a good surface to place personal items. There was a radiator in the room that kept me up with loud gurgling. The bathroom was also very small and hard to maneuver in. The bed was comfortable and there were ample towels. It was depressing to come back to such a small, uncomfortable space.
