The independently-owned Whitehall Hotel is Chicago's answer to the quirky boutique hotel, with a prestigious list of past guests that includes Katharine Hepburn and Mick Jagger. The Whitehall has been around since the 1920s, and maintains a combination of European-inspired charm and warm Midwestern hospitality, from the plush upholstered lounge-seating to the dark wood paneling and sparkling chandeliers. Feast on steamed dumplings and other Asian bites at Mei's Corner, or drink in the same seats that the Beatles once graced in the Whitehall Lounge. Free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel (fees may apply) brings you back into the 21st century, though personal services like the overnight shoeshine retain that vintage feel.

Location

Right on Chicago's Gold Coast and with handy access to nearby Michigan Avenue, or 'The Magnificent Mile', stay at the Whitehall Chicago and you'll find yourself within walking distance of first-class eateries, movie theaters, colorful clothing stores like Lulu's on the Avenue, and all the pulsing nightlife of Rush Street. Guests in the mood for a moonlit stroll can access Oak Street Beach, only steps away from the Whitehall's front door.

BETTER THAN EXPECTED!

The location is very, very good. Only 1/2 block off Michigan Ave. Take the bus to downtown and The Art Insitute, etc. Room was large and comfortable. Parking is across the street in a public lot and very expensive....no deal there. $20+ a day. Breakfast service was slow and average menu.

BETTER THAN EXPECTED!

GREAT location and I took the bus to downtown (Macy's) and the Art Institute and the boat tour. For shopping along Michigan Ave.and Oak Street this is the place to stay that is comfortable and reasonable. Room was large and comfortable and furniture to sit and chat and sip something from the mini-bar. Quiet. Parking is across the street at a huge public garage and is very expensive (You're not in Kansas, Dorothy!) at $20+/day.

First time in Chicago

First time staying downtown in Chicago, the Whitehall Hotel was great, very clean and the staff was pleasant. The 2 restaurants within the hotel are delicious. The hotel was in a great location to shopping and Loyola University.

Meeting friends

The Whitehall is a classic hotel, with classic amenities. Excellent rooms in a terrific location that can't possibly be beat at this price. Right down the block from the John Hancock, off Michigan Ave. The bar is a good meeting place that reminds of the Waldorf in NYC. The staff is high class from top to bottom, and there is no shortage of taxis on Delaware St.

Great overall

Very welcoming staff. Was able to check in early which is always convenient. Clean room, wasn't huge but that was not a big deal for the occasion especially since I was only staying overnight and spent most of the day walking around the city. Only negative was very loud neighbors yelling at each other for a while which is not the hotels fault.
