Gold Coast boutique meets 1920s charm
The Whitehall Hotel manages that rare combination of location and ambiance. The hotel is situated one block from the Magnificent Mile and Rush Street nightlife district, but tucked away from the tourist fray on a residential street. One of Chicago's oldest luxury hotels but certainly no slouch, the Whitehall brims with 19th century elegance -- imagine chandeliers, wood paneling and tufted leather chairs, all restored to match the original European grace and grandeur of this Gold Coast gem.

Chicago August 2009 review
I visit Chicago twice a year, purely for fun. This visit was another terrific time and I really loved staying at the Whitehall. The location was perfect, which made it easy to get around and do everything I wanted to do. I appreciated being close to a grocery store, being near the public transportation stops, and within walking distance of so many fun places, such as the zoo, the History Museum, and the downtown Loop. The hotel staff were super friendly, might be the best I've ever experienced. My room was great, clean and very comfortable, quiet, and the price was fantastic. The only thing I would have liked is a refrigerator in my room, as I usually buy my groceries and make my own meals while I'm there. It was difficult to keep anything cold, without calling room service for ice. Perhaps a self-serve ice machine would be convenient. I will definitely choose the Whitehall again in the future!

The Potash Brothers market is just around the corner from the hotel, on State Street. It's a terrific market if you want to save money on food.

Lovely Boutique Hotel Experience
From the beginning the front desk was extremely helpful when our room plans had to change. The bellman was very friendly also; he made suggestions for public transportation routes to Wrigley Field, as well as walking directions to restaurants close to the Whitehall. We loved the charm of the building and enjoy choosing boutique hotels.

LOVED our stay in The Whitehall Hotel
From first contacting The Whitehall Hotel before we got to Chicago, the service was wonderful. Every detail of our stay was perfect. Great place, great location, great service. We would love to stay there again if our travels take us to Chicago again. Another plus, they had a crib (with bedding) for our infant daughter.

Wonderful experience
We loved the character of a small private hotel rather than a cookie cutter chain. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was extremely convenient for shopping and seeing the sights of Chicago. It was a perfect getaway.

Get a day pass for the city buses. You can get on and off at your leisure and go wherever you please for shopping and entertainment. Chicago has great clean, safe, and efficient public transportation.

Nice hotel, will come back
The hotel is undergoing a renovation. Although the rooms are nice, they could use an updating. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and I would recommend them to anyone.

Great place to stay!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Whitehall Hotel. The location is exceptional! Our room and bed were very comfortable (not a huge room, but it was perfect for us). You have to pay for wi-fi. Staff was very nice as well. I definitely recommend this hotel.

Great location for the price
Great location and area! Beautiful and spacious room, got free upgrade when checking in. Wonderful staff and classy hotel. Will stay again if visiting Chicago.

Awesome location for sightseeing
Great older hotel in perfect location! Room was very clean and bed and pillow very comfortable. Liked the attention to details (make-up mirror with magnifier, dim lighting in bathroom). Everyone was very nice and helpful. Would love to stay there again!
