Great Location

The location of this hotel was absolutely FANTASTIC. It was a great value for the price. The room was clean, but a bit too noisy. Also the air conditioner was not working properly the fisrt night, but it was fixed the next night, also the TV was old and the colors were a bit off. The staff were friendly and helpful and when I called housekeeping to get something, they quickly brought it up to my room. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and was very happy with the money that I spent for my stay at this hotel.

Nice, but not romantic

Great Location Near Millenium Park Magnificent Mile John Hancock Observatory Sears (Willis) Tower Navy Pier The River (Great for site seeing) Numerous great restaurants including Ed Debevic's (where they are purposely snarky to you :), House of Blues, and Hard Rock Cafe) It is also near some really great deep dish pizza places. I am in love with this city and you really cannot get a bad view of it. The hotel was a little old fashioned for my taste. The elevators were small and it was not very romantic. The beds were really squeaky and there is construction going on during the day that you can hear through the walls. As a young couple, we felt like we were in a great great great grandmothers bedroom. If it was not for the nice staff, housekeeping, and convenient location the hotel would have nothing going for it. If it was plucked out of its location and into another I would never seek out to stay there again.

Weekend Wedding

We came to Chicago for a wedding, but the hotel where the wedding took place was a little pricey. The Whitehall was a great alternative, just six blocks from the wedding, right in the middle of everything, and considerably less expensive. We didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel (not really the point of most vacations, no?), so the surprising smallness of our room didn't put us out. The only real complaint is that the small rooms combined with thin walls mean that even minor noises in the hallways can be disruptive in the middle of the night. All in all, though, an excellent place given its location.

Chicago August 2009 review

I visit Chicago twice a year, purely for fun. This visit was another terrific time and I really loved staying at the Whitehall. The location was perfect, which made it easy to get around and do everything I wanted to do. I appreciated being close to a grocery store, being near the public transportation stops, and within walking distance of so many fun places, such as the zoo, the History Museum, and the downtown Loop. The hotel staff were super friendly, might be the best I've ever experienced. My room was great, clean and very comfortable, quiet, and the price was fantastic. The only thing I would have liked is a refrigerator in my room, as I usually buy my groceries and make my own meals while I'm there. It was difficult to keep anything cold, without calling room service for ice. Perhaps a self-serve ice machine would be convenient. I will definitely choose the Whitehall again in the future!

The Potash Brothers market is just around the corner from the hotel, on State Street. It's a terrific market if you want to save money on food.

Not all that Impressed

Hotel may be a landmark destination, but just because it is landmark shouldn't mean you don't have all the amenities that a good hotel should have. Room Service is stated to be 24hrs, yet it is run by the restaurant attached to the hotel which closes at 11pm, so it is not 24hrs. We were never told until after we checked in that there was construction in the building and it would be loud in the hotel between 9am and 5pm. This information would have been helpful earlier since construction had been going on for some time.

Hotel Review for The Whitehall Hotel

Sister's birthday weekend! Had a great time, beautiful rooms, still renovating, but only worked 9-5 on Friday, not on the weekend. Comfortable beds, great bathroom. We were in a suite and a double. Staff VERY helpful. Suitcase handle broke they gave us duct tape. Two minor details to work on, ice must be brought to the room by hotel staff and we couldn't find a hairdryer in one room
