The independently-owned Whitehall Hotel is Chicago's answer to the quirky boutique hotel, with a prestigious list of past guests that includes Katharine Hepburn and Mick Jagger. The Whitehall has been around since the 1920s, and maintains a combination of European-inspired charm and warm Midwestern hospitality, from the plush upholstered lounge-seating to the dark wood paneling and sparkling chandeliers. Feast on steamed dumplings and other Asian bites at Mei's Corner, or drink in the same seats that the Beatles once graced in the Whitehall Lounge. Free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel (fees may apply) brings you back into the 21st century, though personal services like the overnight shoeshine retain that vintage feel.

Guests in the mood for a moonlit stroll can access Oak Street Beach, only steps away from the Whitehall's front door.

Whitehall Hotel Chicago

The Whitehall Hotel in Chicago was nice, and close walking distance to everything. We should have went with our gut after reading comments posted about how this place really makes its money. A week after arriving home got credit card bill, and they charged us an additional $250 said they found ashes in room and it was non-smoking. Ok well how up gonna prove that, anyway fee was waived by our credit card co. This seems to be an on going trend with this place and how they really make their money!!!! Buyers beware!!!

Not a bad place to stay

I had a great time at the Whitehall in Chicago. I was there on business so, I didn't get a chance to truly enjoy my stay at the hotel!

If you have to go along distance over a hour away in Chicago city try the Metra trains. For only five dollars, it's not bad!

Old but Nice

Our trip was geared toward 2 baseball games at Wrigley Field. The Hotel is located downtown and provided a great location for us to sightsee and go to our ball games. The down side was that they did not have a two queen bed room available and we had to figure out how to sleep 3. We loved our trip and I would probably not stay at the Whitehall again unless it was just my husband and I traveling.

I LOVE CHICAGO!!!!!!!!

By far the best city i have ever been to. New York and Philadelphia have NOTHING on Chicago!!!!! Location was GREAT!!!! Right in the middle of everything we did. Close to subway to get to Wrigley Field. Hotel staff was very pleasant, courteous, helpful. Rooms were average looking but who wants to stay in the hotel room when you have beautiful Chicago under your feet.

A little tired but great bones

Great for a weekend getaway. Older hotel but still very clean and located in the middle of everything. Limited elevators and small so wait for elevators is long. Overall a great value for a weekend getaway. Can not beat the price for the location and quality of the hotel.

ok

no surprising. It's ok considering it's cheap compared with other ones around it. The most annoying thing is they don't have free internet even in the lobby!

Great location!!

Whitehall hotel is 2 blocks away from the John Hancock building and a short walk away from countless stores to shop at. If you're into walking, it takes about 20 minutes to reach Millennium Park (excluding the time you stop to take pictures of Marilyn Monroe, of course). The hotel was clean and comfortable but there were things that could have been better structurally speaking. Their elevator is quite narrow and their walls aren't as thick as I'm used to. Any time a neighbor went in and out of their room, it sounded like someone was entering my own room. I also was able to hear anyone watching tv.
