Quaint vintage hotel just off the Magnificent Mile

A deep green awning marks the entrance to this downtown hotel, which reflects the charm and European elegance of its Gold Coast environs. Guests can walk to Magnificent Mile shops, restaurants, bars, elite Oak Street boutiques and Rush Street nightlife from the doors of the Treemont Hotel. Like the vintage buildings that surround it, the Treemont was designed with strong bones, boasting hardwood floors, wood-paneled ceilings and lovely touches like archways, crown molding and a baby grand piano in the lobby.

Highlights
  • Walk to the Magnificent Mile, Rush Street and Oak Street
  • Penthouse suites with 11-foot ceilings, fireplace, Jacuzzi tub and wet bar
  • Mike Ditka's steakhouse complete with cigar lounge and sports memorabilia
  • The Tremont studios offer furnished apartment-style accommodations next door for extended stays
  • Free Wi-Fi in all rooms
Rooms

The Tremont Chicago remains true to its old-world character. Carpeted parloresque rooms boast ladylike flair with floral patterned drapes, tufted headboards, Queen-Anne style nightstands and dainty brass lamps. Some rooms have kitchenettes and sitting areas. Guests can pay additional fees for their own microwave and refrigerator, but Wi-Fi is free in all rooms.

For longer stays, reserve the Tremont studios next door, a collection of 12 fully-furnished studios with kitchens.

Features

Chicago's appetite for steak is legendary. Here, find one of the best chophouses in the city at Mike Ditka's, which pays tribute to the famed Chicago Bears coach with a prized collection of sports memorabilia, including football helmets of his former teams. The two-level restaurant fires a solid selection of cuts, like the Filet Medallions Three Ways or the Kick-Ass Paddle Steak, but extends the spread to chicken, seafood and burgers as well. At the end of the meal, retire to the handsome second-floor cigar lounge for live entertainment and single-malt Scotch.

Made the move to Chicago easier!

I booked this hotel for two nights in advance of moving my daughter to Chicago. I didn't realize it was a limited services location. i.e. no on-site room service, gym, etc., but for the money, it was a perfect choice.

basic hotel with good location.

Things that were negative: TV wasn't working, had to be reset; Bathtub plugged up and would not drain; Elevator not working and people were stuck on it; Shower head fell off; Room was very warm and tempature had to change; Stairwells are deteriated and smelled and the only way to get to room quite often.

helpful staff

great location; quiet; breakfast in Ditka's was listed as $5, but was actually $10...it was nice, but not that nice; free coffee, however...wish there was a coffeemaker in the room; stingy with soap.

Family weekend

Hotel was OK. Location was great. But it was a very chilly April weekend in Chicago and heat was not working, nor did they attempt to compensate in any way. The room was freezing and only way to sleep was with two extra blankets on us. Impossible to stay in the room otherwise. staff kept giving stupid excuses for the lack of heat, but at the end, they never did anything to make the stay more comfortable. Will go somewhere else next time. Not even coffee in the room.

I have stayed at the Tremont before. This is why I decided to return. It is the best value in the city of Chicago. The location is perfect ..situated on the Magnificent Mile.steps away from restaurants, malls and Chicago nightlife. The rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. The best thing...affordable. I have recommended it to my family and friends.

So So

The hotel is well located, but lacks any amenities. The room that I had seemed to be recently redecorated and was clean, but the rest of the hotel looked like it needed a scrubbing and painting. I can't complain because I had a great room rate and didn't spend much time in the hotel. If you want to be a block away from great shopping on the magnificent mile and close to some nice restaurants, it is tolerable for no more than three days.

Can't beat the location.

Price and location great. New beds that I could hardly get my 16 year old out of. Can walk to everything...Water Tower, right off the Magnificent Mile...All buses within two blocks and train within three. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. $5.00 breakfast and free coffee. Also, Starbucks directly across the street. Will go back, and reccomend to anyone who asks.

Best-kept Secret

My priorities: clean, inexpensive, good location. Tremont met them all. Desk clerk was welcoming. Room was a bit dated and worn, but CLEAN. Mattress was more comfortable than home! Bath fixtures were a little hard to operate--maybe early handicap-accessible design that must have been better on paper? Couldn't believe how quiet it was, even with construction next door. Rate couldn't be beat by a long shot. Located right off Mag Mile and Hancock Tower, so easy to shop, grab taxis / tour buses, and find your way back after meandering! Free WiFi, which is so helpful for travelers. True, hotel has only one small, slow elevator. But an extra thirty-second wait is no big deal. (Hint: bring your own hair conditioner.) Please don't tell anyone how great this place is...I want there to be room at the inn when I return to Chicago!

No problems here.

Stayed here for two nights on a visit to the city to see the sights and check out native cuisine. The hotel has some character and charm to it. The service was friendly and attentive. The rooms were very clean and adequately air conditioned on scorching hot days and nights. This is a no frills hotel. A clean room, bathroom, A TV and some air and that's about it. There is a lounge to sit and relax but don't expect a pool or any of those other amenities. It's nestled in on a city block so there's no room for extras. Great place if your just looking to hang your head and freshen up as you tour the city

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Careful where you eat. Even some of the more popular places are built on status and hype. Carmines had a great atmosphere and exquisite service but when you get down to it, the food was not that good and so overpriced it's almost funny. My fettuccini was over cooked with a flavorless all cream alfredo sauce. The meatballs were undercooked and I would simply not eat there again. On the other hand Giordano's Pizza was a decent way to experience Chicago style pizza. Avoid Ed Debevic's whatever you do, that was just simply about the worst food I've ever had.
