Quaint vintage hotel just off the Magnificent Mile

A deep green awning marks the entrance to this downtown hotel, which reflects the charm and European elegance of its Gold Coast environs. Guests can walk to Magnificent Mile shops, restaurants, bars, elite Oak Street boutiques and Rush Street nightlife from the doors of the Treemont Hotel. Like the vintage buildings that surround it, the Treemont was designed with strong bones, boasting hardwood floors, wood-paneled ceilings and lovely touches like archways, crown molding and a baby grand piano in the lobby.

Highlights
  • Walk to the Magnificent Mile, Rush Street and Oak Street
  • Penthouse suites with 11-foot ceilings, fireplace, Jacuzzi tub and wet bar
  • Mike Ditka's steakhouse complete with cigar lounge and sports memorabilia
  • The Tremont studios offer furnished apartment-style accommodations next door for extended stays
  • Free Wi-Fi in all rooms
Rooms

The Tremont Chicago remains true to its old-world character. Carpeted parloresque rooms boast ladylike flair with floral patterned drapes, tufted headboards, Queen-Anne style nightstands and dainty brass lamps. Some rooms have kitchenettes and sitting areas. Guests can pay additional fees for their own microwave and refrigerator, but Wi-Fi is free in all rooms.

For longer stays, reserve the Tremont studios next door, a collection of 12 fully-furnished studios with kitchens.

Features

Chicago's appetite for steak is legendary. Here, find one of the best chophouses in the city at Mike Ditka's, which pays tribute to the famed Chicago Bears coach with a prized collection of sports memorabilia, including football helmets of his former teams. The two-level restaurant fires a solid selection of cuts, like the Filet Medallions Three Ways or the Kick-Ass Paddle Steak, but extends the spread to chicken, seafood and burgers as well. At the end of the meal, retire to the handsome second-floor cigar lounge for live entertainment and single-malt Scotch.

Tremont Review

The restaurant adjoining the Tremont (Ditka's) was very enjoyable and well-priced. The Tremont itself was a very small hotel that lacked the convenience and ammenties necessary to make the trip a memorable one. The one mentionable that stands out is the lack of heat in the hotel room, which unfortunately required us to move into a much smaller room.

truly disappointing

This hotel seems to be deliberately going out of business. Some rude staff, hard to get hot water after morning. No housekeeping later in the day. Shabby lobby area.

Nonsense

We thought we had a good deal on this hotel. Unfortunately, when we got there we were told that it was $50 to park our car overnight with valet parking. Whenever we needed the car, it took about a half hour to get. The room was all right; nothing too special. The wallpaper was peeling and the shower was pretty creepy. The board under the sink in the bathroom was loose and when we pulled it back to look under, there were years worth of empty beer cans and dust. Who knows what someone could have hidden down there without anyone ever realizing! They clearly do not clean thoroughly. Then, we asked about continental breakfast and were told that they had a great layout for just $5 in the adjoining restaurant. It was by far the worst continental breakfast I have ever had and the only one I have ever paid for. I would not stay at this hotel again.

Worst hotel ever!

I was in town to take a bar exam so all I wanted was a place to relax and watch tv at night. The room was tiny! I had to buy a cooler to fill with ice because they had no mini fridges. The staff was extremely slow and not very friendly. They only have basic television channels and the tv was all fuzzy. I expect more for this much money. Stay at the Seneca, it's two blocks away and multiple times the value.

The Tremont Hotel is a tremendous find.

Very nice hotel and very friendly staff. Great location. Suggest you go to Starbucks across the street for breakfast, as it may be more to your liking.

Adequate

I am only able to describe this hotel stay as adequate. It met the need for 2 people for a inexpensive long weekend stay. Overall, the hotel is in need of some renovations (which I was told was happening, but did not see or hear). The staff was courteous, but left no remarkable impressions. They did their job to the minimum standard with half a smile. Upon entering the thin walled room, it was heated to 85. At least there was heat in a below 0 temperature February stay. Every morning icicles formed on the inside of the window. The room was unable to cool down, even with lowering the thermostat and running the ceiling fan (at least there was a fan). The heat made sleeping in the full (despite reserving a queen) bed difficult. The bed was less than comfortable, the sheets were standard. The bathroom was basic. A sink, a toliet (pressed against the wall), and a shower/tub. The tiles were slightly chipped or falling off, mold stains in the shower, and the paint was chipped, but there was plenty of hot water. There is a closet, a desk, a chair and a dresser with a small TV, but there is not a fridge or coffee maker in the room. At least there is a well known Seattle based coffee shop across the street. The saving point to this hotel is its location. It is close to shopping, restaurants, and public transportation.

There is a delicious cafe about 3 blocks down the street that is open 24 hours that is perfect for a less expensive breakfast or a late night meal. The service is fast and the food is tasty.

hotel aminities

although the suite was clean and beautiful, there were zero aminities - not even a coffee maker. The kitchen was completely bare - no spoon, glass or anything. What is the use of having a kitchen when it is completely empty? The Heating/AC unit didn't work well and the room temperature rose to 90 degrees, so I had to completely switch it off to cool the room down.
