Look elsewhere for a Chicago botique hotel weekend visit

The Talbott Hotel is conveniently located a block from the Michigan Ave magnificent mile shopping and our room was well appointed and spacious. Unfortunately, our three day visit started with a poor check-in experience and we suffered from anemic air conditioning throughout our stay. We checked in at 4:00 pm on a Saturday (an hour after the published check-in time) but had to stand in the lobby for 15 minutes while our room was "inspected" as explained by an almost surly front desk clerk. The room air conditioner was activated by a motion sensor in the room so the room always heated up when we were away. Despite an inaccurate thermostat which said the room cooled to 65 degrees, the room never got any cooler than the upper 70's and that only after an hour of running on maximum cool. The front desk said that they contacted an engineer to address our a/c complaint but the problem persisted throughout our visit. The hotel appeared to be short staffed on the weekend. Our room was not cleaned until 4:00 pm on Sunday, two hours before a too early 6:00 pm offer for a turn down service. Room cleaning was timely on Monday morning. During my next visit to Chicago I will try a different boutique hotel such as the James.

Warm and charming small hotel

I loved this little hotel. It has an excellent location, with everything I needed close by! I used Equinox fitness facility each day - great amenity! Although my room looked out on a wall, it didn't bother me because the room was so beautifully decorated, spacious and comfortable! I also liked how I could store a few items in the refrigerator/mini bar without the usual hassle of most hotels!

Great stay

Central location, very helpful staff, comfortable room. No hairdrier in the room, good I packed mine. I was most surprised when we came back mid day for a rest and left again for dinner. When we came back late, the room had been cleaned again. Overall, very happy with my stay

Great hotel/value/location

Perfect location for Rush street restaurants and Michigan Ave. only 2 blocks away. We were upgraded to a suite room with large living room and bathroom with both tub and walk-in shower. Front desk and concierge were pleasant and helpful. Only negative was lack of grab bars in shower and tub.

Nice and good location!

The Talbott was a very clean and upscale looking hotel. The lobby and check-in area is a little small, but the front desk attendant and the concierge were very warm and friendly when we checked in suggesting activities and places to eat. The hotel is located near a lot of restaurants and close to the Red Line, which we used primarily to get around. Our room was comfortable and we didn't have any problems with street noise on the 12th floor. We were there during a warm spell, so my only gripes would be that there were no ice machines (you have to call the front desk to bring you ice), there was no mini fridge to keep bottles of water cool, and there was no pool. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I would stay at the Talbott again.

We used the transit system to get around the city. I think it was $30 for a 7-day pass, which was pretty cost effective.

Well...

I am a big fan of the Talbott and stay here frequently. Not sure what happened on my last vistit but I did not have a reservation when I arrived, and the city was booked solid. Fortunately they found a room for me...$564 dollars later...

Chicago Stay, Mag Mile

This is our third time staying at The Talbott, and we have had a wonderful experience each time. Beginning with Dwayne the doorman, all of the staff is exceptionally helpful. The rooms are lovely, the location terrific. Also highly recommend the umbrellas provided in our room, which stood up very well in a torrential Chicago downpour!
