Whiskey Bar and Grill

The Whiskey Bar and Grill brings the classic lounge of Rande Gerber's famed New York City and Los Angeles Whiskey Bars to Chicago. Colors, materials, and furniture shapes combine references from the 1930s and 1940s-even the 60s and 70s-for a thoroughly modern feel. The overall design is of sleek modernity, steeped in the lounge culture of the past, reflecting Gerber's personal vision for the Whiskey. Executive Chef Christopher Reischl oversees the dining room. The menu has a fresh and simple approach to seasonal selections and is diverse enough to please a variety of appetites. Offerings range from sandwiches and salads at lunch to fresh seafood pastas and prime cuts for dinner. Irresistable homemade desserts bring a perfect end to a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, while the Whiskey Bar is open daily from 11:00AM to 2:00AM. This establishment is located on the first floor and accessible through the guest lobby.

Great Location

Would recommend to a friend!

The Sutton Place Hotel's main attraction is its location. It is situated in the Gold Coast, about a 5 minute walk to one of ... the nicest beaches, North Beach where we joined the many runners and cyclists who are there. It is also 5 minutes away from the start of Mitchigan Avenue (magnificant mile). It is surrounded by great restaurants and there are many places to grab a coffee. The rooms are a decent size, very clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. I would definately stay at this hotel again.

Great Stay/Great Location

Ant0416 Sep 10, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

My friend and I wanted to stay in a location that was accessible to both the magnificent mile and great restaurants and night ... life. We had it all. Sutton place hotel was right in the middle of everything. I had really wanted to go to Lake Michigan and we were very close to walk to it however it was a little too cold even in August. Though it was about two miles, we walked to Willis tower (formerly the Sears Tower), and got to see everything on the Mag Mile along the way. Great shopping all around (like 5th ave in NY where Im from) and stopped off for some Chicago style pizza. When we arrived it was very early - i think around 8:30AM - and they had a room readily available for us (it was a Thursday). Very clean, large bathroom. Pancake house is right across the st.. really wanted to go there. Several steakhouses on each corner encircling our hotel. They called us a cab that Friday to take us to Wrigley to see the Cubs beat the Mets unfortunately, but it was a quick ride. AND at the end of our trip a cab in front of the hotel followed us to the Corner Bakery to get coffee and waited bc it wasnt open for another 5 mins. Overall, great stay would def def return.

Sutton Hotel, Chicago 8/14 to 8/16/09

steve2jane Aug 17, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We liked the hotel, especially the location but valet parking was pricey. Only one restaurant in the hotel and no breakfast ... on weekends. Plenty of other restaurants across the street but the hotel staff seemed uninformed about which restaurants offered what. Also, no ice machines, you have to call room service to get ice and then obviously there is the implication that a tip is necessary to the person who delivers the ice. Finally, we belong to the hotel's Prestige Club but because we booked our room through Orbitz they would not honor the free wireless internet.

A Solid 3 Star but not a 4

Newly weds Aug 4, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Hotel is in a great location. Close to restaurants and water tower area. Staff was very friendly and efficient. If this ... had been billed as a 3 star hotel it would have exceeded my expectations. Calling it a 4 star or diamond lead me to expect more. There are no amenities to speak of, only a small work-out room and a business center. The room was small but adequate. The bathroom was nothing special. The mattress was very comfortable but the bottom sheet would not stay tucked in so the mattress was exposed by the morning. Not sure how sanatary that is. The towels were scratchy.

Perfect location to some of the best dining and one block from the Magnificent Mile. It doesn't get any better than this. 2 ... blocks from Lake Michigan. This is a first class hotel with the Concierge Mark that holds the honour of Les Clefs d'Or. Bravo to the entire staff, from bellman, to doorman, to cleaning staff and the front desk personnel. Ginny Feb 15, 2009

My husband and I spent the night at the Sutton Place Hotel to celebrate his 50th birthday and Valentine's Day. The room was ... large, clean, well-decorated, and nicely updated. The bathroom had a deep sunken tub and separate shower, which was the best hotel shower I have ever experienced. The hotel staff was very attentive and friendly. The hotel is very conveniently located among numerous restaurants and nightlife on Rush Street. The Original Pancake House is directly across the street, but the line was so long that we opted to eat breakfast in the hotel restaurant. The food was good and the price was reasonable. We were very comfortable at this hotel, and we will definitely return for another stay.

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Walk

If you have never been to Chicago it is worth doing the sightseeing tour on the bus. The tour guides are very informative and it is great to know the histroy behind the buildings and what they are used for.

Dining tip, Long Walk

We really enjoyed our dinner at mk and I highly recommend the kobe skirt steak. The restaurant is walkable from the hotel but we cabbed it one way:)

Dining tip, Short Walk

I read the reviews about the pancake house across the street so we decided to give it a try. It fully lived up. Well worth the wait in line. If you are a couple you might be seated faster if you don't mind sitting inside at a middle table.

A popular Chicago Steakhouse, Gibson's is across the street and several other good restaurants are within one or two blocks.

Checkout all the "Rosebud" restaurants, also "The Bowl" for Asian cuisine. Not one disappointing meal did I have.

You should try Carmine's restaurant (less than a block away) and the Original Pancake house (right across the street). Both were DELICIOUS.

Just 3 short blocks to Michigan Avenus shopping, and fine dining.

--John, San Francisco Nov 13, 2008

--Lisa, USA Oct 28, 2008

The Navy Pier and Chicago river boat tours were not far. Shopping was a short walk and restaurants and nite life were well within walking distance.

Lake Michigan and a wonderful city park is a few blocks walk. The breakfast spot next door is always in demand but the wait is more than worth it.
