Gorgeous renovation, no in-room coffee!
Caffeine freak Nov 19, 2009
I have stayed at the Palmer House before, and the new renovation is simply stunning. Friendly and prompt service. But no ... in-room coffee maker as they used to have. And outrageous price for room service for a simple cup of coffee. In-room coffee maker is so standard that I have come to assume there would be one. They could offer no explanation why they took them out.

The hotel is perfectly located. It's right in front of the Field Museum, Millennium Park, and along side Michigan Avenue. ... Aside from being a historic landmark... it lacks many of the little things you'd expect: mini-fridge, free wifi, large room. The only worth wild feature has to be the beds - they are amazing!

I've stayed at the Palmer House intermitantly over the past thirty years. I think the hotel has updated itself without ... losing its grace and style. The staff, especially concierge, were very accommodating. But even casual greetings from housekeeping staff and bell hops were part of an ambiance the hotel developed. Some of the immediate environs surrounding the hotel can be challenging. The hotel borders the elevated tracks which create distraction on the Wabash St. side of the hotel. Parking is limited and expensive. I rely on mass transit to minimize the expense of keeping a car downtown.

I arived to my hotel before check-in time and got my room early in a timely manner. Room was very clean and staff was very ... respectful and wonderful. I asked for an extended check and recieved it with no problem. The hotel is beautiful and is only a walk away from the lake and Millenium park. Stores around the hotel are great. Lots of places to eat around the hotel. I would have liked a refrigerator in the room to keep food and water bottles in. The CTA is minutes away from the hotel and saves lots of money on cab fare. The hotel was in a good, safe area of chicago.
