Not worth it!

Booked my room more than three months ahead and then they tell me they don't have what I paid for??? So I get a king size bed in a tiny room but they offer me a rollaway bed. However they failed to mention the extra bed was an extra $40 dollars. This hotel is ridiculous. The staff is unfriendly. The rooms are tiny. The furniture and bathrooms are outdated. The best thing I can say is the location was within walking distance to popular attractions. Please, look elsewhere when going to Chicago.

No attention to detail.

My power didn't work when I got there, the bathrooms are incredibly tiny, the room had a tray from the previous stay outside the door and there was trash from the last tenants inside. The bed is really comfortable...but that's it. The view was awful. My TV remote didn't work really well and the 27" TV in the executive suite is many years behind. Also, they took down the Internet half-way through my stay and then brought it back with some "new" service that only gave me 56k. I fully intended on staying the 2 days after the conference for some R&R, but I went home instead because that would be more relaxing. I'll never stay here again. But I would visit the dining inside. AVOID THIS PLACE!

tough for business

This was a very frustrating experience...because of poor to non-existent cell phone reception throughout the hotel. I could not do my business without leaving the hotel..missed important calls, etc. As a result, I will never stay there again

Business Parking May Be a Problem

VERY small room. VERY, very small. Beautifully decorated, though. Sink wouldn't drain, so staff upgraded us to a HUGE room. Attended a business meeting where parking was vouchered. At checkout, presented voucher. First said no because voucher for self, not valet parking. Showed them company documents said otherwise. Then staff said not for overnight guests, only day parking!! Parking costs $38 the same whether for an hour or 24 hours. They would make no adjustment at all. Very disappointing level of customer care. Gorgeous hotel. Wonderful food at business meeting. Nearby reasonably priced restaurants. All other aspects of the stay were very good.

Miller's Pub just outside one hotel entrance. Reasonable prices, delicious meals. Beef & Brandy just around the corner from another entrance. Very good breakfast -- also offered lunch and dinner.

The Stay

It was a very nice hotel, even tho I recall reading that parking was included with the room rate of $170.00. HOwever once i got to the desk that was not the case and they would not grant me that. it costs $4 to get a banana at roomservice and you can just imagine the cost of the rest of the menu. I will not stay here again.

Disappointing

The Palmer House was, in its day, a great boutique hotel. I went to Chicago for the 4th of July weekend and was sadly disappointed at my experience there. I have not stayed there in over 15 years but remember it as a fine, grand hotel with the architecture and amenities you would associate with a great old hotel. The "bones" are still good. The room I was in did not have the promised king sized bed and the retailers who used to call the Palmer House home - like Louis Vuitton an Gucci have been replaced with a Crocs store and a really dingy gift shop. This is the first clue that the clientele has also changed quite a bit. I was on the elevator with people who, if I saw them on the street, were more apt to mug me than to share a drink in the bar.

old hotel

service depends on the person you encounter. one person might behave nicely the other my be unconcerned. the hotel is like a refrigerator. you have to wear a coat in the hotel because it is cold inside. nothing is complementary, they charge for everything. parking fee is the most expensive one in Chicago. the hotel is just for the business travelers who don't care about parking fee, internet charge or fitness center fee. only the location is good like most of the other hotels in the loop.

good location but room was small $$$

The hotel is in a great section of the loop, the room was very expensive, small and the bathroom was even smaller than I would have expected. They charged us for daily parking at a rate of $36 per day, and we were not able to exit the parking garage with out showing our hotel bill proving we had already paid for parking. I would definitely not spend the $$ to stay here again. There are many hotels in the same area.
