Palmer House Hilton
In short the stay there was disappointing. I requested a smoking room and got it but it was an extremely small room. My friends who paid 20-30 dollars less a night got much bigger rooms. There was barely any space between the bed and the TV. The TV was an SDTV. It had very few channels. And in other rooms there were better channels. The second night the internet stopped working even though I was trying to pay. I was there for a conference and it was really important for me to have access to my email. I kept calling them and all they would say would be "We know there is a problem, we are working on it, we can't say when it will be fixed, and no Sir we do not have any back up, if you need internet, you can go to the lobby". The last night my card also stopped working. I could not get into my room. They sent the security guy who was very nice but even his card didn't work. Eventually after about 15 minutes I was able to get in, get my ID and get a new card. At check out, I was asked how the stay was, I said it wasn't good and the lady casually said "Oh, I apologize" and didnt even bother to ask what was wrong. Not a very pleasant experience.

Disappointed
Dinner at Lockwood was great. Room service delivery was great. Building is beautiful. Everything else.... way sub-par. The bed and pillows were so uncomfortable - I woke up every hour. Breakfast/Coffee (room service) was barely diner quality. For the price/value.... I would never recommend staying here. Come in, look at how gorgeous it is, eat dinner, and then stay somewhere else.

Lovely historic hotel
My husband and I stayed at the Palmer House in an executive level room for Christmas Eve. We had a wonderful time. The hotel is beautiful. Historic photos and paintings adorn the walls. We strongly recommend the executive level experience. The only thing we didn't like was the television—it was a little small and old.

In Hotel
Pay the extra money for an executive level room. The unlimited snacks and non-alcoholic drinks as well as the deluxe continental breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres are worth it.

Better attention for HHonors members
Everything actually went pretty well. I had to call down New Year's Eve to the front desk at 2:30AM to have security get the group of kids in an adjacent room to quiet down. I hoped they would have followed up after the initial complaint to be sure things were still quiet. They did not, and the noise continued more on than off until 6:00AM. I understand the perils of New Year's Eve in a hotel. But so does the hotel. and they should have better staffed things, especially since they knew they had lots of their own guests attending the 3,000 plus party in their downstairs ballroom.

Short walk from hotel
The Art Institute of Chicago was only 2 blocks away. Not a super art fan, but I could have gotten lost in the museum for the whole day because they had so many interesting types of art (Architecture & Design, Music, Film, etc).

Our New "go-to" Hotel
My husband and I stayed here after Xmas for a small get-away trip. Every staff person we interacted with was friendly and accommodating. For example, when we checked into our first room my husband had come down with a bad migraine and it did not help that our room was located near a service elevator. When I went downstairs to see about exchanging rooms, the host Michelle let me look at the last few rooms they had available that night to make sure it would be comfortable enough for my husband. I assume that if I were at another hotel they would just assign me a different room and not let me actually go in and inspect them. The maid staff was nice, I enjoyed chatting it up with them in the mornings. They work hard too. Everyday our room was thoroughly scrubbed down and cleaned like they preparing for a new guest to check in. The concierge, doormen and main floor staff treat everyone walking around the place as a guest. If you're a Bourbon gal (or guy), check out the bar downstairs, because they make a dang smooth Manhattan. Overall, my husband and I would absolutely visit this hotel again. It's in a great location. Also, be sure to explore the hotel itself, the architecture is phenomenal and there is so much history especially for old Hollywood and music buffs. We can't wait visit Chicago again just to stay here.

Fantastic New Years Eve Location
We had a larger room to was suitable for five adults. The staff was friendly and always willing to help. From the front desk to the room not one person had a frown. Ate at the Lockwood Restaurant in the lobby and it was excellent. Ordered room service as well and it was fresh and worth the price. Luxurious hotel with amazing location. Would recommend for all ages.
