Rooms
The James Hotel Chicago exemplifies boutique luxury. Understated rooms make use of bold accent pieces, from mocha throw pillows to moody gallery lighting, to flesh out contemporary style. Think of a downtown bachelor pad-complete with seamless shower doors, cube-shaped ottomans and tripod-like floor lamps. Loft penthouses (available in one- or two-bedroom layouts at 1,400 square feet each) strike a balance between active engagement and comfort with an Apple-based entertainment system with full-space surround sound, an Eames lounge chair and oversized sectional sofa with mohair and down cushions. Wi-Fi is free.
Dining
Visitors at The James Hotel Chicago can enjoy nightlife with cocktails and other evening drinks at the in-house Jimmy and Primehouse Bar. Foodies, meanwhile, crave the scene and food at David Burke's Primehouse, where steaks are dry-aged in a salt-tiled Himalayan aging room. The dining rooms pour on the swank -- right down to the sexy red leather booths.
Recreation
Active travelers flock to the 24-hour gym to release endorphins on 10 cardiovascular machines and more than 25 pieces of strength equipment. Personal training sessions also can be arranged through celebrity fitness guru Jim Karas.

Guests reward themselves with pampering facials, massages and body treatments at The Spa by Asha, an Aveda spa. In-room services also are available.

Great stay at the James

We loved the look and feel of our room (Kiehl's products in the bathroom get a gold star) as well as the proximity of the hotel to good restaurants, shopping and key attractions like Oak Street beach and Millennium Park. The concierge was extremely helpful in advance of our stay in making restaurant recommendations and booking a table for an important family celebration, and while we were there, he helped us get last minute tickets for the architectural boat tour that we were having trouble getting on our own. We also had an incident involving a lost stuffed animal and the hotel staff was very responsive and helpful in retrieving it from the outside laundry service (it had been inadvertently scooped up in the bed sheets) the next morning. We liked the bar downstairs and the food from room service that our children ate appeared to be quite good. Overall, an excellent experience. We look forward to staying there again soon!

My review of James Hotel Chicago

Small room considering the price. Great staff though. Valet is a little on the pricey side ($46/night) but that's pretty much expected. Great fitness center.

location, location, location

This is a great boutique hotel. The staff is very friendly, and service is first class. Located one block from the magnificent mile and world class shopping, you can't go wrong with this hotel. It is very trendy, not very family friendly. Great Workout, fitness room. The steakhouse was good for breakfast, too many dinning options in Chicago to eat at the hotel. Bathroom is very simple but clean, beds are very comfortable with thick duvets, and big screen tv and seating round out a very comfortable room. The staff make the difference, 5 star service. The concierge gave us directions to a local restaurant over the phone. Within 5 minutes a staff member dropped off written directions and a review of the restaurant. First Class. and a great location.

Fabulous Hotel! One of my favorites!

This was my second visit to the James Hotel, stayed for three nights and once again had a fantastic time! This hotel is so nice and the staff is great, especially the doorman. Only slight inconvenience is that sometimes the front desk staff is very busy on the phone and you often times have to wait to be helped. This is my second favorite hotel in downtown Chicago and I will definitely be back! 5 stars!!!

Luxury right off Michigan Avenue

I was in Chicago on business and this hotel was perfect - 1 block off Michigan Ave, close to a variety of high-end and family restaurants. The room was roomy, with excellent linens, and a small, but comfortable bath. The decor is modern, free internet in the lobby. I've stayed in Chicago a lot, and this is one of my favorite places to stay.

Attentive staff; great location

Located right off the Magnificent Mile (and across the street from Trader Joe's!!), we were very happy with our stay at the James. My husband rates hotels by their fitness facilities and he touts this one as the best hotel weight room he has seen. The room was spacious and very clean and the staff was very pleasant and helpful.

Great Location

The James Hotel was a wonderful place to stay. The location was the best and the service was phenomenal. The rooms were nice and the bed was very comfortable. The bar area downstairs was nice and there were a lot of young adults sitting downstairs in the lounge area. We would definitely stay there again.

Great Weekend Getaway

The James provided us with the perfect place to call home for a weekend. The staff was so friendly and helpful and didnt miss a thing. The room was beyond comfortable, the bed was cozy, the duvet you wanted to wrap yourself into and the bathroom amenities made you feel like you were at a spa. The hotel was the perfect location - close to the shopping, restaurants and bars. The concierge is very helpful and made dinner arrangements for us. I'm looking forward to going back soon.

Make reservations everywhere you go. When you go for deep dish pizza, order in advance. We went to Giordanos, were told we had a 45 min wait but then found out we could have ordered our pizza and had it ready when the table was available.
