Rooms
The James Hotel Chicago exemplifies boutique luxury. Understated rooms make use of bold accent pieces, from mocha throw pillows to moody gallery lighting, to flesh out contemporary style. Think of a downtown bachelor pad-complete with seamless shower doors, cube-shaped ottomans and tripod-like floor lamps. Loft penthouses (available in one- or two-bedroom layouts at 1,400 square feet each) strike a balance between active engagement and comfort with an Apple-based entertainment system with full-space surround sound, an Eames lounge chair and oversized sectional sofa with mohair and down cushions. Wi-Fi is free.Dining
The James Hotel Chicago is a destination for nightlife thanks to JBar, a DJ-fueled lounge that keeps the music going five nights a week. Foodies, meanwhile, crave the scene and food at David Burke's Primehouse, where steaks are dry-aged in a salt-tiled Himalayan aging room. The dining rooms pour on the swank -- right down to the sexy red leather booths.Recreation
Active travelers flock to the 24-hour gym to release endorphins on 10 cardiovascular machines and more than 25 pieces of strength equipment. Personal training sessions also can be arranged through celebrity fitness guru Jim Karas.Guests reward themselves with pampering facials, massages and body treatments at The Spa by Asha, an Aveda spa. In-room services also are available.

Perfect for a "senior" traveling alone
The salient aspect of my experience at the James in Chicago is the quality of people who greeted and advised me each day. I also am encouraged by hotels that do their best to consider using non-disposable bathroom amenities, and saving linens. Bravo to the James!!!!

Good Value for Downtown Chicago
Although still pricey, compared to other similar hotels in Downtown Chicago, The James is a good value for your money. The rooms are decent sized, clean, and the staff is very efficient. The toiletries are also amazing!

Trendy and Comfortable
This was our first stay at the James Hotel. Our stay was very comfortable. We leveraged the valet parking service provided, and while a bit expensive was very convenient. The staff at the front desk was very helpful whenever we had questions or needed assistance. The hotel was within walking distance of numerous good restaurants and we were able to discover a few nice places to eat at in the River North neighborhood during our stay. The decor was very trendy, modern, and comfortable. I felt right at home with the style of the hotel and enjoyed much of the photography displayed in the lobby and in the rooms. I didn't get a chance to eat at the Primehouse restaurant located downstairs (which also provides the room service), despite recommendations by friends. I look forward to checking it out on future visits though. I would definitely consider staying here again in the future.

Great location, small rooms
The james hotel in Chicago has the prime location, but room size was a bit snug. The bathroom was very small didn't have a counter area to put medicine kit even. The staff was friendly, lobby was nice. Very nice gym. This is a hotel that if you can get under $189 is a good value. Not a $200 plus a night room.

Very Nice Boutique Hotel
I upgraded to the an Apartment King and it was totally worth it. The separate living area had everything you could need, and then some. The breakfast nook doubled great as a desk. The bathroom was a great use of space, especially with the pocket door and the window in the shower was very novel. I would definitely stay here again.

Great Stay
Had a wonderful weekend at The James. Very comfortable and clean. My main complaint is that there aren't views of the city from the rooms. It is only 17 stories high and in the middle of the city so your view is of walls, streets, and the backs of other buildings.Besides this, the bed was wonderful and my visit relaxing. Would stay there again.

Great Weekend Getaway
The James provided us with the perfect place to call home for a weekend. The staff was so friendly and helpful and didnt miss a thing. The room was beyond comfortable, the bed was cozy, the duvet you wanted to wrap yourself into and the bathroom amenities made you feel like you were at a spa. The hotel was the perfect location - close to the shopping, restaurants and bars. The concierge is very helpful and made dinner arrangements for us. I'm looking forward to going back soon.

Make reservations everywhere you go. When you go for deep dish pizza, order in advance. We went to Giordanos, were told we had a 45 min wait but then found out we could have ordered our pizza and had it ready when the table was available.
