Huge Need For Improvement
As a seasoned international traveler for business and a slightly less seasoned traveler for vacations, this is the worst hotel for the money I have ever stayed in. The location was great and the staff quite helpful. The room was a joke for the price. My 2 day stay in the heart of Chicago was far from enjoyable. Upon arrival, the refrigerator was broken. A call was put in for a replacement refrigerator that was delivered the next day. It finally got cold by the day I left. I and my friend had to use a hotel garbage can filled with ice to keep anything cold. Every food item we brought back had to be thrown out, since the replacement refrigerator never cooled enough. Beautiful location, but I cannot recommend anyone to stay there.

Short walk from hotel
If you are looking for some nice stores, Louis Vuitton, Bvlgari, they're very close. The John Hancock Building is close too and has some great city views.

A drawback
The hotel is beautiful.. Unfortunately the room we were assigned to 1. the thermostat wasn't working properly, the room was hot..2. the blower fan made a constant clicking noise . Had to call the front desk at 2am to obtain room fan.

Classic, but not clean
I was looking for a classic weekend at an elegant hotel. It was supposed to be a romantic weekend and it was, but the room let me down. There was dust everywhere. The wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling, the carpet felt weird under my feet like someone had spilled something that had gotten cleaned-up, but that left the carpet not as soft as it once was. I took the sheets off the bed to make sure they were changed and they weren't, they just used the top sheet as a bottom one. There were stains the bathroom sink and when I put the toilet seat down there was[*] behind it. This had all the makings for a perfect weekend, it just was not clean enough for me.

wouldn't advise anyone to stay
My boyfriend and I went to Chicago for the weekend and stayed at The Drake. It was a great location being right at the beginnning of the Magnificent Mile, but 90% of the staff was very unfriendly. We got there and they right away told us that on top of what we paid for the hotel it was an extra $49 to park our car. Our room wasn't ready until almost two hours until after check-in time, and the room we got was supposed to have a king size bed in it, and ended up only having a queen. The staff at the pub were also very rude, but the valet staff were very nice. Very clean, elegant, and beautiful, but not worth the other 10 annoying things about the place! Wouldn't stay there again.

The Drake
The Drake needs that something special - staff needs to be more sincere and less forced with their hospitality. Room needs to be updated and tub needs to be cleaned so there is not residual dirt in the groves. Food is average and needs updating - overal experience is fair.

a bit disappointing
I was very excited about my stay, but disappointed once I arrived. I paid for an upgraded room with a view, and the view was nice, but......there was mold and some black stuff falling out of the air-vent. The wall paper was peeling, bathtub curtain was moldy and smelly, and they charged $16.95 for internet connection, not the $12.95 that was quoted. When I asked, they said that I had opted for a faster connection, but I was not offered it when I signed up....confusing. Over all the hotel is of course very nice, but I think they are resting a bit on their reputation....so many places to stay, I think I will go elsewhere next time.

The Drake Hotel Chicago
The location was perfect for shopping and anything else you might want to do in Chicago. The lounge and restaurants were all very nice and had a cool 1940's feel. The only negative was that the rooms were cheaply decorated and the bathrooms needed updating and maintenance.

The Drake- lost opulance
My grandfather took my father here, my father took me here and the disappointment that met us at the door was sad. While the rooms were ordinairy and the view nice, the pillow had stained cases, the towles reeked of chlorine and the historic beauty of the hotel is all but gone. No cocktails in the lobby, dark and dingey dining rooms and a compleate loss of formality in the public rooms of this once fancy establishment. Too bad. It's not a deal at the high prices one pays and in the end you would most likely get more 'bang' for your buck elsewhere. On the up side the service staff was pleasent and helpful, [...] the concierge outstanding!
