As soon as you leave the Hotel you are on Michigan Avenue, you can't find a better location. There are Buses right there as well so if you want to go see the Museums, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs, Da Bears or Navy Pier it's all a short distance away. Super convineant. The Subway was easy and fun to take as well. Chicago was super safe No Gun Shots were I was.

Aunt Dawni Oct 18, 2009
Best location in Chicago. Close to everything. Overall great hotel. Mildly dirty floor carpet in our room. Tub/shower very ... clean. A little noisy but to be expected when you are in the middle of town. Beds were super comfy and room was cozy and nicely decorated. Very friendly check in staff and conceirge (sp?). Excellent choice and we would stay again. Nice that we had wake up calls and there is an alarm clock in room.

Disappointment with Hotel [...]
Traveler Sep 29, 2009
A lost reservation [...] started the stay. There first response was, we are sold out, and then it was we can find you a ... smaller room, and then finally received the room requested [...] on the 9th floor (loud). The room was to have a double bed/queen. Of course we received a double bed (short). The room was ridiculously small. The room itself wasn't much bigger than the bathroom. The AC vent rattled the whole time, the temperature of the room was turned up each day we left the room. Very disappointing stay.

[...]t was a hotel that as for only having walk to the Hancock center as shown in the hotel presence, beside the hotel also ... the convenience store, and existed at a very good position. It was possible to stay by same sense of Japan as the economy hotel and it was possible to be relieved though the charge was considerably different.

The best part is the location, that's it
Pro-traveler in her 30's Sep 22, 2009
The best part of the hotel was the location. The "El" is a couple blocks away, the buses on Michigan stop in the front, and ... there are great restaurants nearby. We booked a double-bed reservation and advised a late check-in time due to our flight. When we arrived, our room was not available because they overbooked. They gave us a full-sized bed in a "cozy" room. Our small room had spiders in the closet and mosquitoes up on the ceiling so we asked for a room change. The staff hesitated until they did find the spiders/mosquitoes in the room. They said they would upgrade us to a junior suite and give us free breakfast for the remaining of our stay. The following day, we came back to check in for our jr. suite. They said it was not available and to come back later. When we did, they gave us a room, which turned out to be a double-bed room. Now, I don't mind the double-bed room, but don't tell me you're giving me a junior suite unless you are. I don't like being lied to especially if I'm a paying guest who did not make the overbooking mistake. Good luck at your stay here.

Pippens is a nice, local bar that opens until 5am. Portillos was another great place to have their famous Beef Sandwiches. Gino's is around the corner for deep dish pizza. Order first before coming in, unless you don't mind the 45 min. wait while they bake your pie.

My husband and I made our first visit to Chicago for four nights after a very relaxing week in Door County Wisconsin. We ... thought we would finish our vacation in the exciting big city. And we were not disappointed. Our stay at the Allerton, because of its prime location, definitely added to our enjoyment of Chicago. The only negative about the hotel was that you could hear hallway noises in your room.

We definitely recommend the restaurant Bandera, which is only a couple blocks south of the Allerton on Michigan Ave. They have a relaxing ambience, live jazz nightly and wonderful food.

King bed was very comfy, room well appointed and the new remodel throughout the entire hotel was very chic. Bellhops, front ... desk, maids . . . all were very kind and helpful. Enjoyed being in the heart of restaurants & shopping; only a few blocks from the softest, sandiest beach; and 3 blocks from the El (subway).

The subway was only 3 blocks away so easy to get to Soldier Field (8 minutes), Wrigley Field (15 minutes), and the Airport (1 hr). Don't take a cab, it's only $2.25 one way on the subway. River Architecture Tour is a must. And if you're brave, head to the old Sears Tower (now Willis Tower) to stand on their glass ledge at the top of the building, faaaaar above the street.

The Allerton is a historic hotel located in the heart of the Magnificent Mile shopping area. It was convenient to many ... tourist attractions. The only drawback was that we preferred two double beds, and we ended up getting a room with only one double bed. The room was VERY small, with barely room for us and our suitcases. There was only a shower in the bathroom, no tub. Great views of Michegan Ave. from windows though.

The location of this hotel is convenient to shopping and the lake. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Great clean ... rooms however we could hear people moving around and the alarm clock going off next door. Hotel parking is expensive as usual for downtown. If you self park around the corner it will save you a few $$.

Great location, walking distance from everything on downtown. Beautiful decoration, just renewed. Friendly staff. In the ... other hand, too noisy because of Michigan Avenue. The complimentary breaksfast is just that: a cup of coffee (dicaff too...), no cookies or something else as I used to find.

From the airport, instead of taking the blue line to the loop, switching to the red line, and coming back up to the Chicago stop, get off the blue line at Chicago and then take the 66 bus east to Michigan Ave. This should save 25-30 minutes off the airport trip, obviously depending on the bus schedule and such.
