great stay

Without any request from us, staff gave a complimentary upgrade room with king bed because res had gone through for just a full size for 2 for our 2-night stay.. If your main plans are Water Tower Place, it's only 2 or 3 blocks north. Cab rides from here heading south and east to places in the Loop like Blue Chicago, Union Station or to Navy Pier are about $7-9 plus tip. My great room deal made this even more special.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The Irish pub just a short block east of Allerton entrance is decent and is open for breakfast. Very handy.. Walgreens just a block or so north is also handy for pop/soda and snacks that are not "readily" available in the hotel.

Business trip for National Restaurant Association

This hotel is fantastic because of the staff who were, without exception, helpful, attentive, good humored, well groomed and did everything to make us feel welcome. Room was clean and comfortable, bed comfy, and kept immaculately cleaned. Good location.

Disappointing Stay

I cannot recommend this hotel. We stayed in a deluxe room King, which faced an alleyway, had dirty carpets (stains throughout the room), the water did not work from 9 pm to 2 am on our first day, and our minibar was full of garbage rather than minibar items. We asked the hotel staff several times to clean out the garbage from the minibar and restock the items, but they just ignored our requests. Also, we needed a sewing kit, so we called the front desk and asked for one, but it never came. After repeated requests, one eventually arrived. Also, our room was not cleaned up for one of the days during our stay, despite us leaving the hotel room round 9 am. Also, the TV didn't work until I spent sometime plugging everything that was unplugged....There were several other bad experiences, and poor service (no room service, whatsoever after 11 pm...that's a bit early!)...The hotel is overpriced for what you get. The only nice aspects are the location and the decor in the lobby...don't waste your trip to Chicago with this hotel.

Nice getaway...

The hotel was in a nice location - right by a lot of stores on the Magnificent Mile, walking distance to the Navy Pier and John Hancock Observatory. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, and room service food was great. The rooms were a bit small and old, and definitely a bit odd shaped and cramped. However, the main downside of the hotel is the limited number of really small elevators that were often full or cramped when going up to or down from your room - definitely inconvenient at times.

Romantic Getaway

The Allerton is in the perfect location for shopping, great restuarants and the local sites. The hotel has bee renovated and the lobby area and restuarant are very nice. The breakfast, while expensive was quite excellent. I upgraded to a "Jr. Suite" which is simply a longer room, which does give sufficent romm to move around. I really think a standard room for two people would be very cramped. I also must note the AC did not work great and in the summer the room would have been uncomfortable. As an old hotel, the elevators are very small - two people and thier luggage only. I would only stay here again if I can get a great rate.

Short stay for family business in Chicago

Nice hotel, friendly staff, perfect location, nice view. Upgraded my room to a larger room at no extra cost. Reasonable cost considering it is right in the center of Michigan Ave. shopping. I visit Chicago for family business a few times per year. I will definitely use this hotel again.
