Super small

My sister and I take a spring shopping trip in Chicago annually and like to try out boutique hotels that a are interesting. This year we selected the Allerton Hotel-MM and stayed in a double queen room. Pros -Great location. -The concierge dude/valet staff were nice. -The design/decor was interesting. -Rainfall shower head was divine. Cons - The rooms are extremely small - there are NO dressers or mini chest of drawers so have to stuff your underthings/clothes in the nightstand. -Closets were too small to put your suitcase and unpacked clothing so you HAVE to live out your suitcase. Since the rooms are way too small, expect to stub toes and trip over your luggage - BEFORE you buy a thing! (We only brought two and it filled the room with the limited space). -The hallways had bags of towels lying in the floor EVERYDAY/ALL HOURS and the halls were narrow so the tripping continued - a huge annoyance. -The breakfast food was overpriced and common. -Overnight parking is $48 per night - we expect to pay a premium for parking but it was too high and it often took 1/2 an hour to get our vehicle. Overall not a good value for the price.

Service must have been on vacation

The staff either needs to have a new lesson on customer service or the hoetl must have been having a training of new staff when I was there. The staff was not even friendly. When i checked out, the women was actually talking on the phone to someone else and didn't even thank me for staying there. Hotel needs to understand what customer service is. Elevators were slow. My room had a tv on the side of the room and not in front of the bed. The bar was small and when I went down for a drink, I asked if I could sit at a table in the closed dinning room since there was no place to stay. the bartender said no and then moved on to another customer.

Disappointing Stay

I cannot recommend this hotel. We stayed in a deluxe room King, which faced an alleyway, had dirty carpets (stains throughout the room), the water did not work from 9 pm to 2 am on our first day, and our minibar was full of garbage rather than minibar items. We asked the hotel staff several times to clean out the garbage from the minibar and restock the items, but they just ignored our requests. Also, we needed a sewing kit, so we called the front desk and asked for one, but it never came. After repeated requests, one eventually arrived. Also, our room was not cleaned up for one of the days during our stay, despite us leaving the hotel room round 9 am. Also, the TV didn't work until I spent sometime plugging everything that was unplugged....There were several other bad experiences, and poor service (no room service, whatsoever after 11 pm...that's a bit early!)...The hotel is overpriced for what you get. The only nice aspects are the location and the decor in the lobby...don't waste your trip to Chicago with this hotel.

Disappointing view

Overall I was disappointed. Our room I believe was assigned to us because of our discount had two windows which looked out to a brick wall 10ft away. We couldn't tell if it was day or night raining or clear. The room was very compact and both of us kept stubbing our toes on a desk chair everytime we had to go to the bathroom. The elevators were hot and small and we waited a long time for them. I don't think I would stay here again

You get what you pay for

If you get a good deal on a room here, the front desk seems to know this and asigns a terrible room. If it was not because of a screaming guest in an adjoining room at 3 am, whereby the hotel needed to do something nice, and eventually moved me to a better room, I would have never known a better room even existed. However, the first room was unacceptable at any price.

Small, old, low class, yuck.

The best thing to say about this hotel is its location near the Miracle Mile. The hotel is 100 years old, rooms are small (and we had a deluxe king!) with little light and the bathrooms TINY. Nothing seemed fresh. We used the room only to sleep and shower, and even that was an issue, with endless noise from neighboring rooms, horseplay in the corridors all night, even someone trying to use their key to enter our room at 1am. We called security, no response. It is in no way a 3 or 4 star property. Do not recommend and won't go back., despite many upcoming trips to Chicago planned.

old, small, yuck

Hotel is 100 yrs old and it shows. Only positive thing is great location. Rooms are small (and we had deluxe king!) with tiny window, tiny bathroom, and a carpet that needed a shampoo. Staff was OK, not fabulous. We used basically to sleep and shower, and still it was sub-par. Saturday night drunken people throughout floors, virtually NO security, and no response to call that someone was drunkenly trying to enter our room at 1am! Would not recommend, never go back.
