One block from Michigan Ave and shopping galore. Steps to many great restaurants and boutiques on Oak Street. I wish there ... was an in-room coffee maker - I should have checked the amenities list before I made the reservation. The restaurant at the hotel was very pricey for breakfast - but there are many less expensive options within a block or two.

Lovely Place but Pricey
New Haven Traveller Oct 14, 2009
Lovely place; our room was smaller than I imagined for the price and expected a little more 'wow', I guess; staff was very ... pleasant but had limited interaction with them except housekeepers (who were charming); a block or two from the upper end of Mag Mile; a few blocks walk to most restaurants; a lesson learned (again)- if you're spending most of your time out seeing the city, spend less on your room and more on your activities and dining.

Great location. From the moment we stepped out of the car, there were staff ready to help, direct, and lead us toward the ... desk. The consierge was very helpful when we were looking for a restaurant for dinner ([...]). She made the reservations while we were out on a walking food tour of Chicago. Comfortable, excellent service
Casual Traveler Sep 8, 2009
We came here for a mini-vacation and to see some Red Sox games while they were in town. The hotel was in a great location, ... within walking distance to the Mag Mile, and Rush street...there was also a train station about 2 blocks away. The concierge staff was excellent at recommending restaurants and bars to go to. We did not have any children with us, but there were a lot of people in the hotel who did, and also lots of dogs! Even the room service menu had a pet menu! I would definatly stay here again when I return to Chicago!

While the Mag mile is impressive, it really didn't have many additional stores than your typical mall did...and, Chicago has a sales tax of 10.25%!!!!!

Curly Aug 26, 2009
Great location and most attractions and shopping areas are walking distance. Fairly close to the beach....if you visit ... Chicago during summer. Quite area but close to the Magnificent Mile. Really enjoyed staying at Sofitel....good rooms...relaxing environment (unlike other 5 star hotels....more cosy and does not feel like being at an airport lounge). Concierge was great, got me last minute ticks for the Bears vs Giants game.

Go to Smoque BBQ for a great BBQ meal. Take the blue line train to the Irving Park station, get off the train, go left, down the stairs and make a right. Walk two blocks to the place. This place was on the Food Network which is what made me go and it was very good. It's BYOB and very, very casual.

Classy Hotel, Even More Classy Staff
Boulder Colorado Travelers Aug 10, 2009
Great location near the large, already famous Michigan Avenue shops and restaurants, yet within walking distance of the small ... neighborhood diners and boutiques. We used the hotel as home base to take the red line train to see the White Sox, to travel to Toyota Park to see the Jimmy Buffet concert (our main reason for traveling to Chicago), to take in the Field Museum, Navy Pier Harbor Cruise, and to visit U of Chicago, Rush Street, and take long walks along the Lake. We have never had more fun and we've been to Chicago several times before. Sofitel was a great hub!!

We had a great time "people watching" by dining at the outdoor restaurants along Rush St. (Carmine's for dinner, Tavern on Rush for brunch).

thought the hotel was worth the money considering there was a music fest going on and hotel rooms were scarce. there was ... complimentary coffee in the restaurant but i had to ask about it, we had a fridge in the room and there is a supermarket around the corner on state which was convenient. we didn't eat at the restaurant, it looked pretty pricey.

We decided to grab a drink at the Signature Lounge on the 96th floor of the John Hancock Center. Being it was only 9:30 we figured we would be "early" for the true nightclub revelers. We were wrong. We had to wait in a line just to take the elevator up to the Signature Lounge or the Signature Room (restaurant on the 95th floor). But the line moved relatively well. However, there was another line once you got off the elevator. We kept thinking "surely all of these people want the observation floor (94th) and not to just get a drink." Apparently not. But again, the line moved relatively quickly and we did get seated at a table right next to the windows facing south. Service was very slow, some drinks were very strong and we needed the light from our cell phones to read the drink menu. The place was crowded and loud. The drinks were not cheap (but I didn't need to tell you that, did I? $64 with tax before tip for 4 drinks and a piece of tiramisu). Yes, the view was beautiful and we were able to watch the Navy Pier fireworks from our table. I get to check off one more thing from my "to do" list, but a bit too touristy to probably do again.

Don't miss the Hancock Tower which is only a few blocks away. The $15 cost of going to the top floor (94th story) Observation Deck is well worth the cost. What a view!! Listen to the headphones too...the information is fun and informative.
