River Hotel

the hotel was just great.

For our annual after Thanksgiving girls weekend we typically book our hotel online and don't know exactly where we'll stay until after we've signed up. We've done much better in the past for the price ($129 per night), but the River Hotel is nice; well located right on the river and walking distance to shopping/restaurants. Although the rooms are small,they have all the required amenities; just on a smaller scale. When all four of us visited in one room, we actually had to crawl over the beds to get from one side of the room to the other; literally no walk room (yes, the rooms are actually that small!) Spring water available for dispensing into plastic bottles is a feature. Since hotel promotes itself as "green", all the bottles seem a bit wasteful. Doorman helpful; staff friendly. Did I say the rooms are very small?

I stayed at the River Hotel. At check-in they upgraded my room for only $20. The room was very nice and comfortable. Quiet at night (I got a great night's sleep). Location was awesome! The festival of lights was happening when I was there and the fireworks were right out the front door of the hotel. The hotel provided complementary coffee with festive spices to add if you liked. Shopping was right across the bridge. Although I was traveling alone, there were business people, families, travelers... it was a very nice, friendly atmosphere. The hotel employees were friendly and helpful.

I stayed at the River Hotel while in Chicago for a conference. It's in a beautiful old building that at one point was the tallest in Chicago. The desk help is friendly and helpful. They've redone the rooms and they are modern and clean. While my room was small, my bathroom was quite large although it didn't have a bathtub (who uses those in hotels anyways?) it had a large shower! Although being on the 38th floor, it took a bit for the hot water to get there... The internet worked well and being on the 38th floor, had a great view of the city! The location is close to everything downtown. Right on the Riverwalk, a block off Michigan ave and the Magnificent Mile shopping. 3 blocks from the House of Blues. Theres a wonderful little italian restaurant on the ground floor that has fantastic pasta and a wonderful wait staff, Bella Bacino's!My parents were staying at the Sheraton and after seeing my hotel and my room, wished they would have stayed at The River. [...] got me a great rate so that my 2 nights were less than one at the Sheraton! I would recommend The River to anyone staying in Chicago!

excellent location, excellent staff I will go back every time if they continue being so good

I was in town for a conference. The River Hotel was 2 blocks from the conference location at a significant cost savings. I was able to relax in the room during the 1 1/2 hr that I had for lunch. The room was nicely laid out and decorated. I felt secure in the building (Your key was required to activate the elevator). It's level of service was not of the same standard of other full service hotels. But this is easily overlooked since I paid motel prices for a downtown hotel. Would definitely stay here again.

The vallet area was extremely busy and confusing. The front desk was extreamely busy and small, it took a while to check in. It was nice that you have the security of the elevators only working with your room key. But another negative is that we could hear everything going on outside of our room in the hall, the walls are thin or the doors are thin or something! WiFi is a plus. No code needed you can just use it!

The River Hotel is located right where I wanted to be - that is, when I walk out in the morning Chicago stuns me all over again. It's even in a classic building itself. The room was small, but impeccably furnished. Wi-fi was free. Bed was comfortable. I didn't ask any more of it, considering the price was half what the Renaissance wanted 2 blocks away.

Great Location - Was there for a wedding. Rooms were a little small, but for the price and location - it was perfect

For a downtown Chicago location, could not be better. The staff were efficient and very friendly/helpful. Clean, comfortable room with all amenities including wi-fi free and use of computer when the wi-fi was temporarily down. Overall, excellent experience.
