The landmark River Hotel has kept up with the times, especially when it comes to environmental impact. Its LEED-registered building and Green Power Partner utilizes low-flow showerheads and participates in recycling programs. For what it may lack in luxury and size, the hotel scores on points like casual ambiance, simplicity and value.

Unknown Gem

I was in Chicago for Whiskyfest, held just down the block. Within walking distance of Union Station and the MegaBus stop. Fabulous location! Everything about the reservation, checkin/out was very smooth. Room was small, but very nicely furnished. Even had a book of Chicago Mystery writers' short stories. Oh, and the view! Just around the corner from Morton's and McCormick and Schmicks. Easy walking distance to the Art Institute, etc. Didn't try the little in-house Italian restaurant. Next time.

Great hotel, great location

I stayed at this hotel while attending a conference at a large, nearby hotel. It was great. Nice restaurant and bar, good business center, free internet, clean, modern room. Nice desk space and plenty of power outlets. I can't ask for more.

Nice place, especially for the money

We went there for a weekend and were treated very well at the hotel. Aside from a slightly questionable looking bedspread and a bathroom door that didn't work that well, everything else about the hotel, location and staff was wonderful. It was clean, very quiet, stylish and comfortable. Also, I liked all the green, eco-friendly efforts the hotel makes. Very well done. We'd definitely go back there again.

Weekend Trip

I was in Chicago spending a weekend with a group of friends, all of whom were from out of town. The hotel was very comfortable and the rooms we'd booked (a single and a suite) were very nice, with a very convenient location right in downtown close to all the attractions and numerous shops. The concierge was quite helpful; several of our party had late flights out and they were willing to hold their luggage at the hotel even though we'd already checked out. I can definitely recommend the pizza served in the Italian restaurant downstairs. The kitchenette in our room and the free wi-fi were definitely a great touch, and they were very prompt with their service when we asked for extra pillows and the like. The only things that I wished were different are the showers: water pressure was somewhat low (though as a green hotel I can understand why) and the parking was rather pricey. But I would definitely recommend this hotel for others and consider booking it again myself for future stays.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Those who book City-passes or want to do museum tours of Chicago, arrive at the Shedd Aquarium EARLY. No later than an hour after it opens. Otherwise, there will be a two-hour wait just to get into the building, and THEN the line towards the ticket counter.

Great location, view, service!

The River Hotel was a great place to stay. A friend and I traveled by train from Michigan and visited the Lincoln Park Zoo, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum and Chicago Cultural Center. The location allowed us to walk nearly everywhere we went. Service at the hotel was friendly and helpful and the room was clean, stylish and comfortable. Nice view of the river. Deli next door has great sandwiches and breakfasts.

Wonderful!!!

The hotel was located right off Michigan Ave. Great location everything was within walking distance. When I called to confirm my reservation, my room was upgraded to a "river view" at no extra charge. The staff were very pleasant and helpful upon arrival and throughout the trip.
