Perfect location at the top of the Magnificent mile

As locations go, this Wacker Drive hotel couldn't do better, occupying prime riverfront space in the historical Mather Tower off the Magnificent Mile. The landmark River Hotel has kept up with the times, especially when it comes to environmental impact. Its LEED-registered building and Green Power Partner utilizes low-flow showerheads and participates in recycling programs. For what it may lack in luxury and size, the hotel scores on points like casual ambiance, simplicity and value.

Highlights
  • LEED-registered hotel with green design and practices
  • Kitchenettes available, plus free chilled, purified bottled water
  • Delivery from select neighborhood restaurants
  • Bella Bacino's Italian Bistro & Pizzeria
  • Free high-speed wireless Internet access throughout the hotel
Rooms

Well-kept, comfortable rooms at the River Hotel offer the no-frills traveler twin, full, premium queen and king beds, plus work station. Some rooms are equipped with kitchenettes, and corporate apartments are available for professionals seeking accommodations for longer than a month.

Features

Not every professional has an expense account and travel-related costs can really add up -- lodging, food and transport to name a few. For the conservative business traveler, the River Hotel offers a great value with special perks like free wireless Internet access and complimentary chilled, purified bottled water. The River Hotel has a convenient location in Chicago, steps from the Magnificent Mile, Tribune Tower, Millennium Park and the Loop for business travelers.

Other features include a 24-hour concierge, and fitness room. Bella Bacinos, a casual Italian-American trattoria, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Valet and self-parking are available for a fee.

Location was wonderful. Very affordable.

I took my 10yearold grand-daughter, she loved Chicago. We went to the American Girl Store for a Tea Party, went to Navy Pier twice and rode a sail boat out to Lake Michigan. Enjoyed Millenium Park. We enjoyed Bacino's restaurant at the hotel. It was a memorable trip and I plan on returning and staying at this hotel again!!

We found that walking was fun to Millenium Park and the River Walk and just out exploring. We found cab fares very reasonable and took a water taxi to Navy Pier to save time.

Great Location

I stayed at the River Hotel. At check-in they upgraded my room for only $20. The room was very nice and comfortable. Quiet at night (I got a great night's sleep). Location was awesome! The festival of lights was happening when I was there and the fireworks were right out the front door of the hotel. The hotel provided complementary coffee with festive spices to add if you liked. Shopping was right across the bridge. Although I was traveling alone, there were business people, families, travelers... it was a very nice, friendly atmosphere. The hotel employees were friendly and helpful.

Very modern hotel. Fantastic location

The hotel was fantastic, very surprising. For the price, I did not expect it to be so nice. The staff was very helpful and gracious. The rooms are very clean and updated. Nice new bathrooms, flatscreen television, wireless internet was great, great little bistro attached..there's nothing old and stuffy about this hotel (as is the case with a lot of older hotels) the rooms are skinny, but the price is right! Fantastic Location overlooking the river. Would definitely stay here again and again.

Chicago Christmas trip

We had a wonderful time at the River Hotel. The rooms were clean and updated. The flat panel TV was very nice. PERFECT for walking to the shopping areas in all directions. The Bell captain was very sweet and helpful. He stood outside in the snow with the 6 of us (myself, my husband and 4 friends) and watched us act silly when the snow began to fall. The lobby was warm and inviting with a gas fireplace and a huge chess set where we gathered one night for a few games of chess and small talk. There was a bar right off the lobby and they allowed us to buy drinks and talk them to the lobby with us. The water filling stations on each floor were very convenient. Nice not to have to buy a $6 bottle of water. The entire experience was wonderful, warm and memorable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and will stay here again.

Great hotel, great location

I stayed at this hotel while attending a conference at a large, nearby hotel. It was great. Nice restaurant and bar, good business center, free internet, clean, modern room. Nice desk space and plenty of power outlets. I can't ask for more.

superb view and clean room

This newer chicago hotel was great. You cant beat the location. Very close to navy pier, shopping, etc. Everything was within walking distance, but there are several CTA (bus and train) stops within 1 block of the hotel. The rooms were clean and the hotel was quiet. The hotel had wireless internet throughout and unlimited bottles of purified water. The service was great and the staff very friendly. The only thing missing was a pool.

There is a Dominicks grocery store just a few blocks away (Right by NBC towers). They offer the same prices as you would find in the suburbs. If you want to save money, shop there. They have a great deli offering many hot foods.
