Perfect location at the top of the Magnificent mile

As locations go, this Wacker Drive hotel couldn't do better, occupying prime riverfront space in the historical Mather Tower off the Magnificent Mile. The landmark River Hotel has kept up with the times, especially when it comes to environmental impact. Its LEED-registered building and Green Power Partner utilizes low-flow showerheads and participates in recycling programs. For what it may lack in luxury and size, the hotel scores on points like casual ambiance, simplicity and value.

Highlights
  • LEED-registered hotel with green design and practices
  • Kitchenettes available, plus free chilled, purified bottled water
  • Delivery from select neighborhood restaurants
  • Bella Bacino's Italian Bistro & Pizzeria
  • Free high-speed wireless Internet access throughout the hotel
Rooms

Well-kept, comfortable rooms at the River Hotel offer the no-frills traveler twin, full, premium queen and king beds, plus work station. Some rooms are equipped with kitchenettes, and corporate apartments are available for professionals seeking accommodations for longer than a month.

Features

Not every professional has an expense account and travel-related costs can really add up -- lodging, food and transport to name a few. For the conservative business traveler, the River Hotel offers a great value with special perks like free wireless Internet access and complimentary chilled, purified bottled water. The River Hotel has a convenient location in Chicago, steps from the Magnificent Mile, Tribune Tower, Millennium Park and the Loop for business travelers.

Other features include a 24-hour concierge, and fitness room. Bella Bacinos, a casual Italian-American trattoria, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Valet and self-parking are available for a fee.

everything you need at a great value

You go to Chicago to DO/SEE things, right? This hotel puts you right in the action, but close enough to (and facing) the river that it's not too loud and easy to get around. A 2 minute walk from Michigan Avenue, loads of restaurants from Panera to the latest from several Top Chef alums, the location is PERFECT! The staff was super helpful, too. We valet parked our car for the whole day - from 10am Friday to 6pm Saturday for only $35 (plus tip) -- as well as checking our bags so we didn't have to pay a fee to check in before 11am. Everyone was prompt and courteous each time we dealt with hotel staff. Even Saturday around check in time when the lobby was quite full of guests the staff got our checked bags quickly and the valets had our car within 10 minutes. We had a great experience at the Chicago River Hotel and cannot wait to go back!

Ideal location, great value

When you see the name of a hotel you've never heard of, at an incredibly good price, you might wonder if its a scary roach motel. Have no fear, The River Hotel is anything but. Check in was quick and easy, the building is secure (the bellmen see everyone who comes through the small entrance, the elevators can only be run with key card), and once you arrive in your room, the furnishings are new and the room is impeccably clean. While the room is not large, it is adequate for two people. The bedding is not luxurious, but it is comfortable, there is a fridge, microwave and coffee maker, and a chilled water machine is just steps down the hall. The TV is not huge but works fine and offers Direct TV. The room temperature was easy to control, and noise was not an issue. We slept great. The location is fabulous, steps from t he foot of the Michigan Avenue bridge. It's an easy walk to the Magnificent Mile, the river walk and Millenium Park and much more. Because this is a well traveled area we felt safe coming and going from the hotel. For easy access to all Chicago has to offer, you cannot beat The River Hotel.

Great for Weekend Stay

This was a great hotel value! The location is very convenient to many Chicago landmarks for weekend stays. Just the right level of ammenities. Close to Navy Pier, Magnificent Mile, State Street, Sears Tower, many theaters, etc. Rooms are small but very clean and efficient. Beds are firm and comfy. Loved the bottled water availability, business center, extra pillows, etc. Lounge was great! Travelled here for leisure Reunion that included events 3-4 miles north, and 1.5 miles south. Never needed a car (or parking). Took public transportation and cabs to everything (saved hundreds).

perfect location

River Hotel has a perfect location. I walked to Milenium Park, The Art Institute of Chicago and other attractions in Loop. The hotel is perfect in terms of public tranportation. To be specific, I could go to not only air port but also the museum of science and industry, navy pier, Sears Tower and many other attractions using CTA train and bus. In addition, I could enjoy best food in the restaurant and beautiful night scenary view just in front of the hotel. It's needless to say the staff were really kind and nice. If I go to Chicago again, I will definetely stay there again.

Mother/Daughter getaway

Very pleased with this hotel, the location is excellent and we walked to all of our destinations, even Soldier Field! The room was small but the bed was very comfortable and the room very clean. If you don't need to spend a lot of time in your hotel room, this is perfect. Checking in and out was simple and quick, and the rooms are easy to get to. We are already planning another trip around Christmas time and will definitely stay here again!

Chicago in a day and a half

Great location, friendly helpful staff. Very nice room - we were upgraded to a two bedroom suite. No view but nice arrangement for our party, couple plus nephew. Loved the bathroom tile. Good restaurant with outside seating. 5 min. walk to boat tours and water taxi, close to Loop and River North area. We will stay again.
