Boutique luxury in the heart of the Gold Coast
In Chicago, the rule for downtown real estate is the closer to Lake Michigan, the more posh the address. Enter the Raffaello Hotel, a four-star hotel just steps from the lake and Magnificent Mile with a Michelin-rated chef, in-room spa services, executive suites and a 24-hour business center. Blending old-world aesthetics with modern conveniences, the hotel manages luxury and intimacy while being near the downtown hub. Stepping into the vintage building just off the tourist drag, guests are more likely to feel like Gold Coast residents than tourists. Raffaello Hotel offers Drumbar, a rooftop speakeasy-style inside lounge and outdoor garden terrace, found in the 18th floor.
Highlights
- Walk to the Magnificent Mile
- Next to the John Hancock Center
- Boutique hotel with a 24-hour business center and rooftop sundeck
- Upscale Italian fare at Pelago
- Sanctuary fitness center with Precor fitness equipment
Rooms
Staying in this vintage building poses several advantages. The Raffaello Hotel offers rooms with high ceilings and architectural details for a unique, high-class vintage stay. Butterscotch-hued bedding and drapes match the walls, while high ceilings --painted stark white--stun with their beam construction. All rooms feature rainfall showerheads, Gilchrest and Soames amenities, 32-inch LCD TV, iHome and iPod players and 340-count linens. Rooms, which come in king, double double and suite versions are hard-wire and Wi-Fi enabled.
Features
Any Chicagoan will encourage a newcomer to put dining and an architectural experience on the itinerary. At the Raffaello Hotel, both needs are satisfied thanks to Pelago, the upscale Italian seafood restaurant and the rooftop garden, which is open from late spring to late fall. From the sundeck, guests can take in glorious views of the skyline, including Navy Pier and the next door neighbor: the John Hancock Center.

Excellent Hotel
The Raffaello was a great hotel! The staff was wonderful and they even held our bags after checkout because our flight wasn't until later that day. The rooftop is a nice place but we didn't really use it much. Not far from the navy pier either. The hotel is one block from the Mile and towards the end of the mile...a great location!!! And a great price!! Definitely worth going back to.

Chicago - Raffaello
We are very disapointed because we were not able to use internet for 03 days. As we were there for business and internet is essencial for us it was a terrie experience every day looking for a place to be connected. We can believe that a hotel in the USA can stay 03 days wiyhout internet and didnt offerr a fast solution to its customers. We wont cme back to this hoel and we wont recommend it to anyone.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME
I sent clients to the Rafaello Hotel this past weekend for an overnight stay. When I booked the room, I specifically requested a king size bed. To be sure the hotel knew, I followed up with a call to request (again) the king size room. They said it wouldn't be a problem. When they checked in, they were told they were being given an "upgrade." To their surprise, they were given a "double" room, not a king. When I called the hotel to see what happened, or where the miscommunication was, the woman at the front desk was really abrasive. When I asked what they were upgraded from (to get the "upgrade" of a double bed), she couldn't answer. I was put on hold and when she came back, she suggested I send them to a competing hotel. I couldn't believe it. I said, "I'm paying for this room - you admit you messed up - just do something to correct it or bring them back another night during the off-season. Something to not make me and yourselves look bad in front of these clients." They did nothing to help. When the manager got on the phone, he was equally as clueless. He called me the next day to tell me he picked up their valet parking. Like that would compensate for the double bed. When I confronted him about the horrible service, he seemed like he couldn't care less. I explained that valet parking doesn't really cut it when you're talking about business clients and the staff suggesting I go to a different hotel. He then said, "Well I was going to offer you another night's stay but you're being rude." Totally untrue. He never offered another night's stay and was curt about the whole situation. I wasn't trying to complain, but as a business owner, I would want to know when something goes wrong and would want to fix it immediately. I know hotels can be overbooked and this kind of thing can happen, but it's their poor attitude that was frustrating. They could have easily fixed the situation and guaranteed my loyalty in the future, but didn't take the time to do so. Very sad situation considering I have sent clients from out of town to the Rafaello in the past. Due to their lack of quality client care, I would not recommend someone stay at this hotel. There are a lot of hotels in the area with bigger rooms and better care who will get my business in the future. Don't waste your time.

Euro style in the shadow of John Hancock
Overall more relaxed than nearby luxury chains. Rooms vary from closet sized to expansive suites, all well appointed and up to date. Service is a little spotty. Overall, I'd probably choose to stay here and avoid the hubbub of the nearby luxury chains. Clean & excellent location, 1 block East of Westin, 2 blocks from Drake, 1 block from Ritz. Rooms have a microwave & mini bar with granite top; refrigerator. Drake wins the elegant lobby prize. Marriott or Hilton win service prize. Raffaello wins Shower competition. Rain type with handheld and plenty of hot water (did I say plenty#. Rooms vary in size from smallest king I've ever seen- I think it is mainly an add on to make a 2 bed suite# to extremely spacious. Beds linens and pillows up to par with dream bed, but mattresses are only adequate, standard hotel fare. Elevators are small, so be good friends or introduce yourself if more than 3 in the elevator, but wait is less than in the mega hotels.. Heating was barely adequate, #66 degrees on full# thermostat didn't seem to make any difference in room temp. Windows do open for fresh air #when it's warm enough) Internet is 9.95/day, wired or wireless. Desk chairs look good, but are too short to be able to work comfortably at the desk. Service was polite but spotty. Compared to luxury chains- Staff does not answer phone with your name. >50% of time was put on hold by front desk. Several times during my stay, no answer at the front desk. Good donut shop for cappuccino and fresh donuts off the lobby, other than that, breakfast is room service. Restaurant looks nice, but did not try. Lots of great restaurants & shopping only 1-2 blocks away. Drum Bar is quiet, nice view, would be a good place for a relaxed drink & be able to talk with the wife or friends, not a singles scene. Gym is standard hotel type with a few cardio machines, some dumb bells and a small multi station gym. Massage can be scheduled. Heating and spotty service were only reasons I did not give 5 stars, but overall, I'd still probably choose to stay here over the nearby luxury chains next visit. Room Tip: Be sure you know what room you are getting. The 07 seems to be the closet add on for an 05 suite.

My new favorite Chicago hotel
This is a property which apparently underwent a huge renovation a few years ago along with a name change. Check in was very easy. The room was one of the smaller one, but since I was traveling solo it was not a big deal. Bed was extremely comfortable with excellent linens. Surprise appointments in the room included microwave, refrigerator and a Keurig coffee maker which certainly beats most hotel coffe makers. "Glazed and Infused" donuts has an outlet in the lobby, perfect for a quick bite to eat in the morning.

Old fashion, small rooms...basically, pay for location. 4 stars is too much for this boring place. Will never stay again.
