Boutique luxury in the heart of the Gold Coast
In Chicago, the rule for downtown real estate is the closer to Lake Michigan, the more posh the address. Enter the Raffaello Hotel, a four-star hotel just steps from the lake and Magnificent Mile with a Michelin-rated chef, in-room spa services, executive suites and a 24-hour business center. Blending old-world aesthetics with modern conveniences, the hotel manages luxury and intimacy while being near the downtown hub. Stepping into the vintage building just off the tourist drag, guests are more likely to feel like Gold Coast residents than tourists. Raffaello Hotel offers Drumbar, a rooftop speakeasy-style inside lounge and outdoor garden terrace, found in the 18th floor.
Highlights
- Walk to the Magnificent Mile
- Next to the John Hancock Center
- Boutique hotel with a 24-hour business center and rooftop sundeck
- Upscale Italian fare at Pelago
- Sanctuary fitness center with Precor fitness equipment
Rooms
Staying in this vintage building poses several advantages. The Raffaello Hotel offers rooms with high ceilings and architectural details for a unique, high-class vintage stay. Butterscotch-hued bedding and drapes match the walls, while high ceilings --painted stark white--stun with their beam construction. All rooms feature rainfall showerheads, Gilchrest and Soames amenities, 32-inch LCD TV, iHome and iPod players and 340-count linens. Rooms, which come in king, double double and suite versions are hard-wire and Wi-Fi enabled.
Features
Any Chicagoan will encourage a newcomer to put dining and an architectural experience on the itinerary. At the Raffaello Hotel, both needs are satisfied thanks to Pelago, the upscale Italian seafood restaurant and the rooftop garden, which is open from late spring to late fall. From the sundeck, guests can take in glorious views of the skyline, including Navy Pier and the next door neighbor: the John Hancock Center.

Nice Stay except the $54.00 overnight parking charge
I really enjoyed my stay at The Raffaello Hotel. The room was really nice and clean. Great showerhead in the bathroom and I appreciate the mini fridge and microwave in the room. I only have two complaints. When I booked my room I was offered two complimentary drinks at the Drum Lounge. I stayed from Sunday to Monday and the lounge is closed both days so I feel like they should have done something else to make up for that. Next was parking. The overnight hotel parking rate is $54.00 which is absolutely ridiculous when there is a garage on the other side of the hotel with overnight parking for $30.00. That is a complete rip off. But overall very nice hotel.

Park in the garage on the opposite side of the building (back). Its $30.00 overnight vs. $54.00 at the hotel.

Needed something
Left a list of things that needed fixing. Over all it was okay. For the price expected more. Staff was helpful and friendly. But the room was just ok. Almost on par with a Comfort Hotel.

Long walk from hotel
You can get to most place by foot, but the trolly pass for 3 days is the best value. Easy on and off at all the best places. Much safer the a cab.

Weekend
Everything was fine until the 2nd night when I saw a few roaches in the bathroom. I realize getting the cheapest room in any hotel gets you very little. With that said, beware of getting a room on a lower floor that is practically right near some large vent. That thing is on 24/7. I would not stay here again.

My Stay at The Raffaello Hotel in Chicago
The purpose of my stay in Chicago was to catch a ball game and take in the sights and sounds of Chicago. My room was right next to some one who had a screaming and wailing baby. I complained to the front desk and told them this was unacceptable and asked to be moved. They immediately upgraded my room. I went from having a lousy corner single room on the 5th floor to a suite on the 10th floor with a fabulous view. In hind sight, I guess if I would have complained about the location of my room, they would've upgraded me too. The hotel staff was friendly and cordial. The quality of the room was superb!!! The carpet, the sofa, the chairs, and nightstands were immaculate! The bed sheets were of quality and the bed itself was very comfortable. It's was one of the cleanest rooms that I ever had the pleasure of staying it. The bathroom was clean and the shower was good. I did not like the fact that a temporary hold of $100 was put on my debit card for "incidentals" (use of exorbitant mini bar, the laundry, room service and other costly services). Also, they were originally going to put a temporary hold of $300 until I mentioned that I booked this hotel through a reputable hotel vendor service. None of the aforementioned was listed on the Raffaello Hotel site. Perhaps, this is standard practice but it was such a turn off. Luckily, there was a staff member there who agreed that placing a $300 temporary hold was way too much. In the way amenities there weren't any at the Raffaello (less you count the free USA Today). For starters there's a $9.99 charge to use the wireless internet in your room (24 hours of use) but it's free in the lobby. Overall, my stay at The Raffaello Hotel in Chicago was a pleasant one. The Hotel is off the beaten path of the main noisy tourist stomp and my room was impressively clean and orderly!! The hotel is quiet but the small and hot European elevators left much to be desired!

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Mc Donald's, 7-Eleven, Walgreens are all in a 10 minute walk as well as a liquor store. You won't get lost in down town Chicago! The key is to choose one of the many sky scraping and soaring buildings as your visual land marks. And if you get an opportunity take in a Sox for Cubs game if you visit during the spring or summer!
