Boutique luxury in the heart of the Gold Coast
In Chicago, the rule for downtown real estate is the closer to Lake Michigan, the more posh the address. Enter the Raffaello Hotel, a four-star hotel just steps from the lake and Magnificent Mile with a Michelin-rated chef, in-room spa services, executive suites and a 24-hour business center. Blending old-world aesthetics with modern conveniences, the hotel manages luxury and intimacy while being near the downtown hub. Stepping into the vintage building just off the tourist drag, guests are more likely to feel like Gold Coast residents than tourists.
Highlights
- Walk to the Magnificent Mile
- Next to the John Hancock Center
- Boutique hotel with a 24-hour business center and rooftop sundeck
- Upscale Italian fare at Pelago
- Sanctuary fitness center with Precor fitness equipment
Rooms
Staying in this vintage building poses several advantages. The Raffaello Hotel offers 175 all-suites rooms with high ceilings and architectural details for a unique, high-class vintage stay. Butterscotch-hued bedding and drapes match the walls, while high ceilings --painted stark white--stun with their beam construction. All rooms feature rainfall showerheads, Gilchrest and Soames amenities, 32-inch LCD TV, iHome and iPod players and 340-count linens. Rooms, which come in king, double double and suite versions are hard-wire and Wi-Fi enabled.
Features
Any Chicagoan will encourage a newcomer to put dining and an architectural experience on the itinerary. At the Raffaello Hotel, both needs are satisfied thanks to Pelago, the upscale Italian seafood restaurant and the rooftop garden, which is open from late spring to late fall. From the sundeck, guests can take in glorious views of the skyline, including Navy Pier and the next door neighbor: the John Hancock Center.

Really nice place near the hub of shopping! One block off of Michigan Ave but far enough away to not hear horns and noise all night. The robes in the room were a bit hit as was the Kerig coffee maker. It will be the first place I check on for my next visit. One drawaback, the set up of the room (kinda small) was so that the full length mirror was not usable. This is a must for girls going out on the town right :)

Very basic, nothing overwhelming
The location was perfect. However, that's the extent of the value of this place. Two tiny elevators servicing 18 floors. No complimentary wi-fi in the rooms. (Although, that didn't really matter as their wi-fi is so outdated, it wouldn't accommodate our iPad.) Had to clean someone else's makeup off the hair dryer before using it. (Makes you wonder what else wasn't clean.) The dryer itself was old and malfunctioning. By the time I was done drying my hair, the base of the handle was too hot to hold. And not even the coffee in the room was complimentary. It was $3 a cup, that we could make ourselves with the in-room Keurig machine and the 50-cent coffee cartridge. The value of this hotel was based on it being a prime time in a prime location. Otherwise, I've stayed at nicer, more-ammenitied "value" hotels.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
If you're looking to go to the American Girl Place or the Lego Store in Water Tower Place, this hotel is a two-minute walk to those stores.

Girl's night out!
Location, Location, Location great. 1 block off Michican St. Special rate for the evening was a plus. Very large room but could of used more sitting. Only two table chairs provided. A loveseat or 2 stuffed chairs could have easily fit. One thing would keep me and girlfriends coming, to have at least a continental breakfast of some sorts. Also, enough to make a FULL pot of coffee!!!
