You might spend more time staring at the 1920s design of the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile hotel than you spend checking in at the front desk. When you've finished gawking at the gold leaf murals, the marble columns topped with medieval knights, and the blue tile ceiling of the Spanish Tea Court, don?t forget to squeeze in a wine and chocolate-tasting session at on-site eatery, Eno. There's also a Junior Olympic indoor pool to conquer - complete with original Moorish-style features. Or if you feel like a more subdued afternoon, the sugar honey body polish at the Spa and Health Club awaits.

Neighborhood
The InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile hotel is located directly on the 13-mile stretch of Chicago’s North Michigan Avenue, locally dubbed the 'Magnificent Mile' for its hundreds of shops, boutiques, museums and restaurants, many of which operate around the clock. Within a five-block radius of the hotel, visitors will find the iconic Navy Pier and legendary Shedd Aquarium, while a walk over the Chicago River leads to acres of welcome green space at Millennium Park, with the Art Institute of Chicago inside its vast expanse.
Hints and tips
Restored to its former glory after sixty years of disrepair, the InterContinental Chicago has plenty of stories to tell. Check out features like the original marble lions in the Assyrian-design hall, and the sweeping staircase in the lobby, the handrail of which belonged to the Medinah Athletic Club of 1929.

For the best views in the hotel, request a room in the historic tower.

Great location, friendly, helpful staff

I came to Chicago for a conference at Gleacher Center, which is right behind the hotel, so the location was perfect. Great access to Magnificent Mile shopping, restaurants, parks, museum and theaters. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. During breakfast one of the servers noticed I wasn't feeling well and brought me hot tea with honey and lemon. The second day he remembered me and asked if I was feeling better. The concierge gave me tips on how to get tickets for the theatre for half price. Not many places have such conscientious employees. The hotel decor is decent but not as nice as other four star hotels on the mile. The heating system was a bit noisy - it made a clicking sound that bothered me the first night as I am a light sleeper. The hotel is clean and conveniently located with good service.

Hot Tix at the Chicago Visitors Center by the Water Tower offers tickets to the theatre for half price on the same day.

Short stay during winter

The location is great. Right on Michigan Avenue. The rooms are clean but a little old. The lobby is below average. Nice pool in hotel Strongly advise taking buffet breakfast..it is totally woth it The concierge was not helpful. We called and asked about parking and they gave us the adress of park1 parking but this is the worse parking you can park you car at( open and very rude staff and small place to park)... There is a cheaper place right next to it Inpark chicago for 43$/24 hours

Chicago on business

Great location and pleasant staff. But still black and blue from hitting my hip on the bathroom door handle--too little space between the sink jutting out and the handicapped type door handle and seemed to hit it every time I went in and out of the jon. Shower was very hard to get the right temperature but everything else was just fine. I was also put off that the treadmill and fitness area cost $13 a day although the pool (very nice lap pool) was free.

Dining tip: In Hotel

Skip the long lines at Starbuck's and go to the second floor breakfast buffet. A little more expensive even if you just order from the menu instead of the buffet, but nice and quiet, a good start of the business day.

Disappointed

Have stayed at intercontinental hotels across the world and this by far was the most disappointing I was traveling with a child and arrived at 2...they didn't have our room ready until 5. The pool was deep and a lap pool so not ideal for kids. They charged $12 for the fitness center!?! Crazy! And they still charge for the Internet...get with the times!

Pay for fitness

This place is great, located next to everything you need! BUT you have to pay $12 a day to use the gym....and its nothing special. The pictures of the pool area look nicer than it really is. But on a cold winter day it works! Small rooms as well..... definitely stay here again!

Fun getaway

We did not spend a lot of time in the hotel. We were disappointed with the housekeeping. We stayed 2 nights and for the second night received no clean glasses or coffee cups. Called the night before we checked out but never received them , had to call again in the morning. Also had to call for clean towels as they weren't completely replaced. The rooms were very quiet though and the beds comfortable. Located right on the mag mile. One of us used the pool and liked it. It has alot of steps which may hinder some and only ladders to access it. So glad they have a separate tower which can accommodate pets as we did NOT want a pet friendly room. Didn't see pets while we were there. Also stayed there in 2009.
