You might spend more time staring at the 1920s design of the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile hotel than you spend checking in at the front desk. When you've finished gawking at the gold leaf murals, the marble columns topped with medieval knights, and the blue tile ceiling of the Spanish Tea Court, don?t forget to squeeze in a wine and chocolate-tasting session at on-site eatery, Eno. There's also a Junior Olympic indoor pool to conquer - complete with original Moorish-style features. Or if you feel like a more subdued afternoon, the sugar honey body polish at the Spa and Health Club awaits.

Neighborhood
The InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile hotel is located directly on the 13-mile stretch of Chicago’s North Michigan Avenue, locally dubbed the 'Magnificent Mile' for its hundreds of shops, boutiques, museums and restaurants, many of which operate around the clock. Within a five-block radius of the hotel, visitors will find the iconic Navy Pier and legendary Shedd Aquarium, while a walk over the Chicago River leads to acres of welcome green space at Millennium Park, with the Art Institute of Chicago inside its vast expanse.
Hints and tips
Restored to its former glory after sixty years of disrepair, the InterContinental Chicago has plenty of stories to tell. Check out features like the original marble lions in the Assyrian-design hall, and the sweeping staircase in the lobby, the handrail of which belonged to the Medinah Athletic Club of 1929.

For the best views in the hotel, request a room in the historic tower.

Great location...very busy employees

Arrived early, had to wait 5+ hours for room. Finally got room key only to find out the previous guest hadn't yet checked out. Hotel staff said it was a computer glitch, though they should've known if the room had supposedly been cleaned. Waited another 45 minutes and got our room. (2.5 hours after normal check-in time) Desk manager called and apologized and offered complimentary breakfast for our stay. Room was great and cleaning staff very friendly. The front desk and concierge were so busy taking care of the seemingly non-stop flow of people that it was very difficult to get them to answer the phone (were placed on hold for 5+ min every time we called down) So we eventually learned to go down to the desk and wait in line to be helped. Superb location if you want to shop or visit main sightseeing points in Chicago. Right by river and several bus stops. Delicious breakfast buffet! Wonderful pool, but no hot tub.

Orbitz gets the less desirable rooms?

We were put in a fourth floor room that was handicapped accessible, which was fine except that there was no lip or ledge or any real raised area to keep the water from the shower from flooding out into the bathroom. Even a longer shower curtain might have solved this. We had to use loads of extra towels to as kind of a dam. Internet service was intermittent. The view from 468 was of air conditioning ducts. I know I got a good deal so I didn't complain but then I thought, "Wait, just because I got a price on Orbitz doesn't mean the room is supposed to be any worse. Parking was $53.00 a night. I found a nearby lot for $36.00 I think people should be made aware for that. Thanks, Lew

Chicago over the 4th of july weekend

When we checked in we were told that we did not have a room with two beds which is what we reserved. We were told that since we booked with a third party (orbitz) that our room type was not guaranteed. I asked if there was any way for an upgrade to compensate for our troubles and she still said that she didnt have any rooms in the entire hotel with two beds. We were offered an upgraded suite with a king bed and that we would be moved the next day to a room with two beds. I called the front desk the next day and they transfered be directly to the manager. The manager then tells me that they are completely booked and they only have a standard (smaller was the words he used) room with two beds. Again I asked him if there was any compensation for all of the troubles that we have had here with the room situtation. He gave us two complimentary breakfast buffet tickets. But still only had a room with one bed. There were good people that helped us get around the city using the public transportation system at the hotel. All in all it was a good trip but wasnt ok with them saying that my reservation that was made 5 months in advance was not guaranteed because it was booked through a thrid party. That makes me not want to use those websites any longer.
