Landmark Chicago hotel with hip urban appeal
Built in 1929, the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile is a stunning intersection of past and present. Original interiors are steeped in Moorish design, while recent additions are reminiscent of classic urban elegance. Guest rooms vary depending on location in either the main tower or the historic tower. An architectural landmark in the heart of the Magnificent Mile, it's the only hotel whose front doors open to world-famous shopping. A distinguishing feature is the heated, junior Olympic swimming pool that's still true to its original 1920s architecture.
Highlights
- A stylish 1929 architectural landmark
- Home to one of Chicagoās most remarkable indoor swimming pools
- Exclusive, direct access to the Magnificent Mile
- Maid service offered twice daily
Rooms
Guest rooms and suites in the main building of the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile are contemporary, yet classic. DƩcor is simple yet elegantly refined. Rooms include oversized desks for the discerning business traveler, rich terry-cloth bathrobes, access to high-speed Internet and a complimentary daily newspaper. Rooms and suites located in the historic tower fully express their namesake. Opulent European design in lavish gold and russet hues add to the 1920s look and feel. Captivating lake and city views through windows that open are only part of the magic of the historical tower. Soak in Italian marble baths to complete the experience.Features
While the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile stays true to its architectural roots by paying homage to artists and designers from the past, it also embraces modern amenities. A dedicated cardio room, dry saunas and personal trainers are included in the contemporary fitness center.Three restaurants also cater to distinct tastes:
- Eno with its Master Sommelier and specialty in flights of wine, chocolate and cheeses from around the world
- Michael Jordan's Steakhouse Chicago Restaurant and Bar with its mouth-watering hand-cut meat with seasonal ingredients and a modern twist

Great First Trip to Chicago
Hotel was in an excellent location for access to downtown Chicago. The room was a good size with large bathrooms. Hotel was very clean. Definitely cheaper places to stay in the same area, but for the quality of the hotel, not a bad price.

Great location.
Being across the street from the Lego store and Forever 21 was great for my kids. There was even a Garmin store nearby just as we needed it. The pool was a little cold but has a really neat 30's feel to it. Concierge was excellent. Rooms were clean and well maintained, flat screen TV's with HBO and HBO Family. Museums are a short cab ride away.

New is not the historic I wanted
I was very disappointed. I reserved rooms in the historic section but was put into the new section. Checking in at 12:30 a.m. I didn't realize until the middle of the night that I was not where I should have been. When I went to the front desk in the morning they said there was nothing they could do. I asked that my disappointment be shared with the manager. No follow-up from the manager. Later that afternoon I went to the front desk again. I spoke with the front desk manager who said there was nothing they could do. I was never told at check-in the they couldn't accommodate my reservation to be in the historic section. I should have stayed at the Marriott across the street - the rooms are bigger and the location is just as good. Fitness center charged a fee - $12 per person for the day! Crazy in this day and age. I would NOT stay in this hotel again or recommend it.

New Years Visit
We stayed for two nights with two other families on including New Years Eve 2010 and had the best time - mainly due to the hotel, the location, the amenities and price. The kids loved indoor vintage open pool (which is well heated, ornate and well preserved), adults loved the nearby sauna and fitness facilities. We spent and early night on the town with the kids and returned to the hotel and enjoyed the evening in the lounge and ENO wine bar. Service was great, mood relaxing - all good! I signed up for the breakfast package which was fantastic and kids 12 and under are free. Another tip, the rooms in historic tower are typically (but not always) larger.
