Contemporary style, European charm in Chicago
In the Roaring '20s, this boutique Streeterville hotel hosted celebrities and showgirls. While those times have faded, the air of glamour remains at the Inn of Chicago, an Ascend Collection hotel. For proof, just stroll the lobby, where zebra ottomans, fresh-cut orchids and metallic embossed walls create drama and urban appeal. With its central location and focus on value, the Inn of Chicago is a gem for business or leisure travelers seeking convenient access to the Magnificent Mile and its many diversions.
Highlights
  • Prime Chicago location just east of Magnificent Mile
  • Free high-speed wireless Internet access
  • Complimentary stay for children under 18
  • The 22nd floor Skyline Terrace
Rooms
The rooms and suites at the Inn of Chicago feel more like apartments than hotel rooms, and that’s on purpose. Back in the 1920s, the former Hotel St. Clair offered one-bedroom apartments, and the effects linger today at the Inn of Chicago. Space for entertaining, working and lounging are separate from the sleeping area. Big picture windows with skyline views, photos of Chicago, zebra upholstery and unique layouts lend to a chic city vibe.
Features
Great city views might well be the most valuable cache for Chicago hotels and for the Inn of Chicago, this view comes at the Skyline Terrace on the 22nd floor. The Sky Suites also provide lofty views, while a dedicated party space accommodates up to 100 guests for weddings and other social events.

Fair price and a good place

The hotel is a inn. So, don't expect to be treated like a king, but it is functional and this is what matters. The room is not big but it is comfortable. Clean and the Location is great. Really close to the Michigan and State Avenues. The cafe beside the Hotel is a good place to take breakfast and you also have other options near it. Chicago is a wonderful city and this hotel contributes to this.

Great location

This hotel was a great deal for downtown Chicago. The room was small, but comfortable, although the a/c was quite loud. The staff were very nice and helpful.

Fine hotel located near fantastic attractions

Location and staff friendliness are what distinguishes this otherwise pedestrian hotel from the rest. The building has an old/historic appeal, but the interior is starting to show its age. Expect the room to be clean and functional, but don't expect the *wow* factor of higher end hotels. My interactions with the staff (front desk, housekeeping, etc.) were all very pleasant and helpful. But the location/value is what would bring me back. This property is located near Michigan Ave, near the river, close to Miracle Mile and the lake, and surrounded by lots of great dining options.

Great Location but...

The hotel is located in the perfect location right on the Mag Mile. However, everything else is below average. The hotel room was not as clean as one would expect (toothpaste on the bathroom wall, hair's on the toilet seat, part of a condom wrapper on the floor). There was no in room refrigerator or microwave. Then, to add insult to injury, they make you pay 14.99/per day/per device for 2Mbps WiFi Internet - Really??!? ARe you kidding me? This is 2014. Free WiFI should be standard. Even the cheap motels like Red Roof Inn and LaQuinta offer free WiFi. I would not stay here again.

fine

The hotel is in a great location. The room was fine, but very small and uncomfortable. The bathroom was miniscule and difficult to deal with. The hotel itself was very noisy. And from our room on the 14th floor the street noise was very loud - much more noticeable here than in other downtown Chicago hotels where we have stayed.

Third stay and we love it,

Perfect location! Blocks away from everything you want to do in Chicago! We found the beach down the block this summer along with navy pier. Down the block from Eataly and the Mag Mile shopping. Easy walk to river and Grant Park. Skydeck morning or night perfect for coffee or cocktails. No need to spend more for your luggage storage, you'll be out all day and have a great place to sleep and recharge.

Not as bad as I was expecting

The other reviewers had me worried about this place, but I didn't mind it. The place is in an unreal location. The room we had was a corner king and it was actually pretty big!!! The bathroom was very very basic but with great showe pressure. Bed was clean as far as I could tell with my search and well made. No bed bugs. Big desk and air conditioning. A closet and dresser to hold the clothes and a tv. Of all you are doing is sleeping in the room it is really a fantastic deal!!

Inn of Chicago

Inn of Chicago is a block from Michigan Avenue, north of Chicago's Loop. The staff were great... very helpful but not obtrusive. Only problem was that in a vertical building (rooms go up to the 22nd floor) you're probably going to need to use the elevator. This was particularly a problem on Saturday night when the rooftop was rented out for a private party and there was a lot of elevator traffic.
