Good Service
Yachtie Nov 9, 2009
The Hyatt Regency Chicago is a VERY busy place with a lot of energy. I found the staff to be friendly and personable. My ... room was of business class, overlooking the river and Lake Michigan. The view was beautiful, and I was very surprised that the bed was not in a position where one could rest and enjoy gazing out the window. The room lighting was seriously lacking. It had one standing lamp in a corner with reading lamps on either side of the bed that were too bright & irritating to use. I noticed various spots on the marble bathroom floor, especially around the sink/toilet area. Obviously, the maid sweeps, but fails to mop. I found this rather gross. The bathroom also followed suit with the poor lighting issue, but had added design irritations. To flush the toilet, one would have to bend over, close the lid, and reach under the vanity. The same goes for grabbing a kleenex, which was built in to the vanity, BEHIND the toilet lid. There is hardly a spot to set a hair brush on the narrow vanity, so I had to basiclly set all of my bags on the spotted floor. There is nothing available in the fitness center to clean a machine after it's been used. I couldn't believe this, with the flu going around. I had one of the best massages of my life but the therapist was 10 minutes late walking in the door. The massage table was cold, as well as the room, and I thought the lotion that was used smelled "old."

Room was hot regardless of what the thermostat was set on, it just wouldn't cool down. I went to plug in the iron and the ... outlet pushed right into the wall. The second morning we were there, NO HOT WATER at 6am! Finally, I went to the concierge in plain clothes asking for a seafood place that was very casual. They sent me to a place in which everyone, but me, was in jacket and slacks and the cheapest item on the menu was $20.

The hotel was very nice and the location was GREAT! It's a little from from O'Hare, expect a $40 cab ride. The walls were ... paper thin, we could hear EVERYTHING going on in the rooms on both sides. Even conversations at normal speaking volumes. I didn't expect that in such a nice and EXPENSIVE hotel.

Gabe Oct 6, 2009
I booked a king size room for two nights, and called the hotel to let them know that I will arrive very late. They assured me ... that this will be OK. when I arrived I was told that they don't have any more king size rooms, and that they are sorry to give me the Qeen size room, I had no choise but to take it thinking it is just a smaller room, and that next day I will be moved to the King size bed Room, I was wrong, this was a very small room, with a powerful Mildew smell, dirty carpet, very noisey furnace, I called the front desk, they didn't really care, I had a slepless night with a terrible Headache from the smell and the noise.

Kelly Oct 6, 2009
My husband, daughter (<2yo) and I visited this hotel for a conference my husband was attending. Both my daughter and I were ... sick during our 4 day visit, so we spent a lot of time in our room. Not much offered on the TV channel-wise unless you enjoy the news 24/7. This hotel, while nice, was very expensive. Pay movies were $15.00 and they did offer recent TV episodes at $5 a pop. We ordered room service for my daughter and I the first day - food was not great and it was over $50 for the two of us. My husband and I had a lite dinner (soup for me, an appetizer for him) and that was over $40.00. WiFi was $14/day. It was pouring rain when we arrived in Chicago and we took the blue line into Lake/Clark. We tried to wait out the rain there and the CTA agent there recommended we call the hotel to see if they had a courtesy car/shuttle to take us the less than 5 minute drive. They didn't, but informed us that we could get a cab for about $5. Well, it was a little difficult to get a cab in the pouring rain at midnight, so we ended up walking the 7 blocks (~10 to 15 minute walk). We had reserved a king room, but got a room with two doubles instead. We were not happy when we arrived and they really didn't seem to care that we were dripping wet. It would have been nice if we had a refrigerator and a microwave in our room. We couldn't keep any milk or food for our daughter or cold drinks for us in our room. So we basically had a bottle of room temperature water and soda and used ice from the ice machine. Anything else we got at Walgreens. The people of Chicago are absolutely wonderful!!! Everyone is very friendly and willing to offer their assistance at all times!!

When traveling to Chicago and staying in the downtown area, don't bother to rent a car or take a shuttle or taxi. Purchase a CTA multi-day pass at the airport and take the blue line from the airport. It's about an hour ride by train (el) to downtown. Once in the downtown area, it's easy to catch a bus or a train to just about anywhere you want to go. Borders on the Magnificent Mile offers free WiFi, if you are bringing your laptop. Our favorite place to dine is Giordano's on Rush. They have the BEST deep dish/stuffed pizza!! Go early at lunchtime (11am), beat the crowd and at lunch you can get a personal size pizza. Get a small regular stuffed pizza for two people - it's more than enough, we had leftovers. A must!

We took the city bus to Shedd's Aquarium and then wanted to go to Navy Pier. We were told there was a water taxi but it wasn't running at that time. We took a cab and found out that the water taxi was running and it was $3 per person. We did take the water taxi from Navy Pier back to Michigan Avenue (near our hotel). The El is very easy to catch and navigate. Go to Shedd's on Monday or Tuesday after September 15th - general admission is free; Oceanarium is $16 extra.
