Experience the mid-city excitement of Chicago with a stay at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, a pillar of The Windy City's urban landscape. Expansive open-plan areas are flanked by sloping staircases and sprawling sofas, while the burgers at BIG bar are every bit as huge as the window panoramas. As a convention venue, its ballrooms are grand, and its grocery store Market Chicago provides for the lunch-on-the-go crowd. There's even a private self-serve business center with high-speed Internet (fees may apply) and color printing for Regency Club members. Sink a few billiard balls at DaddyO's Pub and Game Room to finish off the day.

Neighborhood
The Hyatt Regency Chicago is one of six Hyatt hotels in the Windy City, located on East Upper Wacker Drive and connected to the Illinois Center. Explore the seemingly endless shops and restaurants on the Magnificent Mile from the front door, or check the exhibitions and performances schedule at Millennium Park. The fairground thrills of Navy Pier are also just to the east of the hotel. A glance at the nearby Chicago River reveals a fairly steady stream of ferry boats and gondolas; come down at twilight for a river cruise as the city lights dance on the water.
Hints and tips
Ask for a room with a view of Navy Pier if you're staying over a Wednesday or Saturday, to watch the twice-weekly fireworks displays from the comfort of your accommodation.

Fitness addicts can access the gym at the Hyatt Regency Chicago around the clock, and there's also a jogger's path along the nearby Riverwalk.

Convenient place to stay

Great location, good view, spacious fitness center with plenty of equipment, a nice bar, and easy check-in were the best aspects of this hotel. We checked in via an automated terminal in the lobby--super easy and fast! I also appreciated the kiosk in the lobby selling snacks and breakfast items, making it easy to grab a quick meal on the go.

Venture outside the touristy center of Chicago for some great neighborhood eateries at real world prices. We took the train to Wicker Park, a neighborhood that's appealing to young hip adults, and found everything from $2 tacos to upscale cocktails. It's fun to get off the beaten path and get a taste of authentic Chicago.

Save the rental car expense -- everything is within walking distance or you can take a cab. You'll save the $50.00 per night parking fee (not seen on any references to the hotel(s) -- not just the Hyatt).

For the Mini-Vacationer

This was one of the most worthwhile mini (3-day) trips I've ever taken. The Hotel was not in the heart of downtown Chicago (noisy and busy) but close enough that you could walk a couple of minutes to all of the hot attractions. It was right across the street from the river walk...peaceful, quiet, and beautiful sightseeing if you simply want to walk there. All shops, restaurants, and tours are within minutes of the Hotel. The hotel Concierge was extremely helpful with affordable recommendations for activities (hop-on/ hop-off tour, architectural boat tour, restaurants within and nearby the hotel, etc.). I went with a friend, the rooms are impeccable. We are two very busy school-based professionals who just needed time away for a few days. It was well worth-it. We went to the spa within the hotel (Spa Di La Fronza), took a self-guided walking tour (easy to follow), Walked to the Navy Pier (boat tours, live performances-some free, beautiful scenery, family friendly, great shops, fun rides, food), took a Speedboat ride, and ate at wonderful restaurants. Must try GINO's East Pizza for Chicago's own deep dish pizza! You will not regret this trip. If you're not a walker, bring walking shoes. It's helpful to take the round-trip shuttle (non-complimentary, but discounted for 2 or more people) to and from the airport. Great stay, Beautiful architecture, great activities, great Mini-Vaca!

Views from the HYATT

Chicago is a beautiful city. The architecture is awesome and the city is easy to get around. We got plenty of exercise as we walked to most destinations. The El is easy to use and sights are very accessible. The River/Lake tour on the Wendella line was wonderful. MILLENIUM PARK is beautiful and FREE! We went to the Chicago Museum on Monday when it was FREE. The best dinner we had was at the GREEK ISLANDS restaurant in Greektown. Take a taxi from the HYATT to GREEKTOWN for about $10.00. The cost is worth it. The food is delicious. We recommend the fried eggplant. The best breakfast was at NOOKIE'S in OLD TOWN. The combination crepes and banana/nut pancakes were a hit! Flying in and out of O'Hare was rather easy. The El travels in and out of O'Hare for $2.25 each way. You will see everyone rolling suitcases through the streets of the LOOP. WE ARE ALREADY PLANNING OUR NEXT TRIP TO CHICAGO! It is cleaner, more relaxing, and more interesting than other large cities we have visited.

Purchase as many admissions before heading to Chicago. This can really save time and is no more expensive. The Willis/Sears Tower Skydeck is especially expedited if you have pre-purchased.
