Very comfortable rooms with large and restful beds. The customer service was first class, very polite room service and ... predominantly the room was clean. On Saturday evening the lobby bar changes to high class club/disco. From what I have seen it was a decent one but it did not affect my girlfriend and me at all in the room upstairs.

nice hotel, but...

Chicago Nick Nov 2, 2009

At first glance, Hotel Sax is a nice hotel. The lobby is nice, the halls are updated, rooms are affordable, and the staff is ... extremely polite. Our complaints: One, half-used roll of toilet paper in our bathroom. I recommend leaving a spare for future customers. No kleenex in the kleenex container. The pillows were feather pillows... which i guess some people see as a luxury. However, when there isn't enough feathers in the pillow to give it any thickness, there's a problem. I stacked two pillows on top of eachother and my head was still flat on the bed. Finally, our biggest issue with the stay was the cost of parking ($49 per vehicle, which wasn't mentioned at any point). Now, I've worked in the Loop for 4 years and am very familiar with the ridiculous cost of parking your car there. However, Hotel Sax is not in the Loop and there is a parking garage across the street that cost $16 to park in.

Just ok

Jen182 Sep 14, 2009

I reserved a king-size bed room only to get doubles, even though I confirmed the reservation just days prior! The beds and ... pillows are very hard and there was a hair on each bed, including a pillow. Our view overlooked the valet parking. Do NOT spend the extra money for a deluxe room. As expensive as this was, I expected way more bang for my buck. The only great thing was the downtown location and the concierge service was very helpful.

Decent hotel for the price. The room was clean and fully stocked. However, there was evidence of below-average maintenance ... as some of the lampshades in the room has stains on them and were affixed crookedly/ improperly on the lamps. My boyfriend and I jokingly called the room our "Crooked Room" because everything was lopsided or improperly affixed.

Hotel Sax has become my go-to hotel in Downtown Chicago for a few reasons. The people who work at the hotel, from the bellmen ... to the front desk staff, are incredibly kind and as accommodating as can be. The room decor has a little bit of a funky edge to it that I appreciate and the rooms are always clean. The hotel's location within Downtown is incredible -- some great bars and restaurants are within a couple blocks walking distance and the river is pretty much right next door. I've stayed here three times in the last 4 months and have had a great experience every time.

Activity picked up during the weekend, and staff kicked into ... gear with helpful recommendations regarding restaurants, nightlife and nearby sights. The Lounge attracts a young, hip late night crowd; a wine bar/restaurant and bowling alley/bar are also part of the hotel and live music at the adjacent House of Blues so there are lots of entertainment options within a few steps.

Time savers tip, Short Walk

Hotel is a short walk from many of Chicago's favorite attractions, including Millennium Park, Grant Park, the Art Institute and more. Save money -- and time -- by getting a CTA pass and map to use the El train and city buses. Chicago's public transportation system is convenient, generally reliable and safe, and serves almost everywhere a visitor would want to go so no need for expensive cab rides. The hotel is also right on the Chicago River, where you can take a highly recommended boat tour to see the great skyline and learn about the city's impressive and interesting architectural history.

Money savers tip, Long Walk

Instead of spending money to park at various places, take the bus. It's only $2.25 per person versus paying upwards of $40 to park your vehicle.

Dining tip, Short Walk

Good places to eat within hotel walking distance are Harry Carey's and Sullivans.

Dining tip, Short Walk

1492 Las Tapas. Spanish cuisine. Absolutely delicious at an affordable price. We ordered several hot and cold tapas and paella.

Dining tip, Short Walk

Harry Caray's is an awesome little pub right around the corner from the hotel. They have great Italian beef sandwiches (served only during lunch, though) and fantastic homemade chips. It's a Cubbies bar so make sure you're wearing the right ball cap when you walk in!

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Walk

Both the Willis (formerly known as Sears) and Hancock towers offer spectacular and different views of a beautiful city. Taking the water taxi to the Willis Tower provides a cheap and fun/interesting perspective as well.

Dining tip, Long Walk

Try Russian Tea Time on Adams across from the Chicago Art Institute. Exquisite meals with entrees you can't find anywhere else. And the flights of vodka are wonderful.

--Chi fan, Iowa City, Iowa May 30, 2009

Dining tip, Short Drive

Rosebuds Tratoria, short walk to great Italian food. Bin36 on site for good wines and cheese. They also server breakfast. Harry Carrie's just around the corner. Smith and Wollenski's on the waterfront right in front of the hotel for outdoor dining or just a glass of wine.
