The new Hotel Lincoln is a window to the most dynamic part of Chicago's North Side, Lincoln Park. Like the neighborhood, the hotel is historic yet fresh, fun though eccentric, active but relaxed. It's where the energy of urban life meets 1,200 green acres and Lake Michigan. All of which makes the Lincoln that unique place where the rhythms of a great city can be felt, savored and adopted as your own. The Lincoln's 184 rooms are classic Chicago seen through an eclectic, contemporary lens. They're on the preppy side, designed and furnished with modern and vintage details, including original art from local artists. Rooms on the highest floors - 9 through 12 - feature the hotel finest views, especially when facing east toward Lincoln Park and the lake.

Good location but bare bones

The hotel is in a good location but the rooms are lacking. It feels like an old motel with slightly updated decor. No mini bar, no room service and no bottled water in the rooms so, if you arrive late at night and want a small snack or drink without going to a restaurant, be prepared to walk four blocks to the 24 hr Walgreens. Also customer service was not great. The first room I was given had a non-working phone and when I asked to switch, I got a lot of attitude from the manager at the front desk. It's a shame because it has such potential.

Tiny room in a great location

We stayed two nights to get a feel for Chicago outside the loop, after staying 4 nights inside the loop. This hotel appears recently upgraded with pleasant interiors and finishes. However, our room was so small that the hairdryer was in a fabric bag, hanging on the only hook in the bathroom. we had to store our towels on the bed so they wouldn't get wet while showering. The coffee service took up what little hanging space there was in the closet. The king bed was comfortable, the staff was very nice and accommodating, sending the TV repairman up twice in one hour! Bus stops right outside. There is a restaurant on the property and a cute coffee shop but we walked around the corner to N--kie's which we liked. There may be larger rooms, it would be worth the up-charge.

great location

We enjoyed the location, took the Clark St bus that stopped outside the hotel, disappointed in how the hotel was maintained. Never saw anyone running a vacum or cleaning a floor and you could tell, the elevator floor had the same litter all 4 days we were there. Sheets were great and very clean, bathroom smmmmmall and floor needed mopped, old dirt in tile, needed alittle more tender loving care, considering the upscale location and price of the rooms.

It was...okay.

Overall, the hotel is nice but it lacks any sort of remarkable qualities that provide for an abiding impression. The lobby was quite unique, and the attached coffee shop was perfect. The hotel hallways and rooms, however, left much to be desired. As with many things Chicago, it just didn't quite hit the mark. I will say, though, that the customer service experience was superb and they went out of their way to make me feel welcomed. I live in Chicago and wanted to have a short "stay-cation" (I hate that made-up word!), but I'm not sure I got my money's worth (I especially wouldn't have if the room hadn't been discounted 30% through a travel website!). Check it out...but don't expect to be dazzled.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

I lived in Old Town for three years and most of the dining experiences are lackluster and overpriced (not to mention the wretched aged frat boy clientele). Skip the reservations, grab a gigantic slice of pizza at Bacci (on North Ave between Wells and La Salle) and head back to the hotel room. In the morning, grab a great breakfast sandwich and pastry from Twisted Sister Bakery and enjoy alongside the fountain next to the Chicago History Museum.

Not ideal for extended, business, or family travel

First off, the staff is top notch. Every person I came into contact with from desk to sales to restaurant staff was over-the-top courteous and willing to help. HL is not ideal for extended travel because the rooms are very small, and there is very limited storage space for clothing and in the bathroom. HL is not ideal for business travel because the free Internet is ridiculously slow (like, bad dial up slow). Downloading documents and even loading some pages is impossible. And the upgraded Internet is only available for an exorbitant daily rate. HL is not ideal for travel with kids due to the limited hours and menu for the restaurant/room service, as well as the general clientele attracted by the hotel. It's a young, hip crowd. The bar and lobby are hopping at night, and the whole place gives off a trendy, professional Chicago vibe rather than a "We have Sprout DVDs available at the front desk" vibe. Other downsides: The walls are very, very thin. This is tough when your neighbors are discourteous or when folks congregate outside the popular bar located in the hotel. Housekeeping staff are very stingy in replacing toiletries and other amenities (paper/plastic cups). My favorite parts: The beds are ultra comfortable. The decorations are chic and fun. The rooms are updated and clean. The common areas are lovely. The staff are friendly, helpful, and go out of their way to provide excellent service.

Older inner city hotel

While charming in many ways, we found the rooms very small, bathrooms even smaller and no counter top space. The in the wall heating unit made so much noise that we had to turn it off and then it allowed a very cold draft to enter the room. The unit also allowed outside noises to enter during the night. The room was clean, good shower, soft towels, and a decent mattress. Staff was very helpful and cheerful. Good restaurant but make reservations early.

Cool place

The room was small which made me feel like I was in a European hotel. The location is excellent on the border between Lincoln Park & Old Town. The seven-block walk to the nearest "L" train station provided good exercise. The restaurant and roof-top bar are great!
