Picture-perfect location near Michigan Avenue shopping and restaurants

A visit to Chicago wouldn't be complete without a stroll along the Magnificent Mile, so the properties closest to the grand boulevard earn instant bonus points. For travelers looking to be within steps of Michigan Avenue restaurants, landmarks and shops, it doesn't get more convenient than this classy Chicago hotel. Catering to business travelers and tourists, the property goes beyond the norm to offer special rooms like kids rooms, tech rooms and suites. Big windows capture the impressive skyline, with some framing views of Lake Michigan.

Highlights
  • Steps from the Magnificent Mile, Water Tower Place, American Girl and John Hancock Observatory
  • Close to Navy Pier
  • Family-themed rooms and tech rooms complete with an iMac
  • Outdoor rooftop pool open seasonally
Rooms
Guests have a choice of layouts, from standard rooms to suites with lovely views of the cityscape. The hotel goes a step further, though, for families and Mac lovers. Kid-friendly rooms throw a bit of color into the neutral palette, boasting beds covered with rainbow linens, Little Einsteins pillows, giraffe play tubes, beanbag chairs and mini chalkboards. In the Tech Rooms, expect an iMac, color printer and high-speed and Wi-Fi access.
In all rooms, look for the Zebra print upholstered armchair, a signature of the hotel, plus iHome docking stations and high-definition LCD TVs.
Features
Chicago is known for its place in defining American architecture, so it's only natural to expect remarkable design from impressive city hotels like the Avenue Hotel.
Downstairs, visitors mingle with downtown professionals at the Elephant & Castle, a pub dishing up British favorites like bangers and mash, stuffed Yorkshire pudding and beans and mash. Dim lighting and a wood-heavy interior make it the place to linger and sample a global selection of brews.

  • O'Hare International Airport (27 minutes)
  • Midway Airport (19 minutes)

Fantastic 50th

Absolutely wonderful. Knowledgable, friendly and kind staff. Fresh and delicious meals with helpful dining room staff. Perfect location. Walking distance to most major attractions. We walked to most shopping and attractions. If some were further away we could take the local buses that stopped less than 150 feet from the hotels front door. Bus tickets were very reasonable. Can ride the orange line from midway airport to loop and transfer to a bus that stops across the street from the hotel. $3.00 for the whole ride Even the housekeeping staff greeted us with sincere smiles. Clean-clean-clean rooms, lobby. Everything polished and fresh looking. Stay here and you will have a great experience,,

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Walk to the Driehaus mansion museum. This is a palatial home erected during the guilder age by a family who spared no expense. Lavish interior with unparalleled collection of decorative art.

Great Time

Had a one night "staycation" in the city I live in. The Hampton Inn and Suites is in a great location close to shopping, restaurants and sightseeing locations. Stayed before when it was The Avenue Hotel and liked it just as much. Love that it is now a Hilton family hotel.

Crown Plaza/Hampton

When we booked our trip, we were expecting to stay at a Crown Plaza, but on arrival were surprised to see that the hotel was now a Hampton Inn. We were expecting something a little more upscale than the Hampton. While the hotel was clean and comfortable, the bathrooms needed updating sorely. Front desk staff was completely inadequate in that EVERY direction we took from them was WRONG. We spend half a day riding around on the "L" only to find that they had given us entirely incorrect directions. Additionally, when given directions to a sea food restaurant, we were told that Shaw's was completely booked, and got us a reservation at Devans. We walked from the hotel and the directions given were to SHAWS. Shaws was nice enough to get us seated even though they were slammed. Not happy campers

Homewood Suites, Not Hampton

Things were confused from the 1st moment. This hotel recently switched from a Crowne Plaza and there's a lot to be done. Check-in was chaotic, as the Hampton and Homewood Suites share the petite lobby and the signage for each is limited. There weren't enough clerks or computers to facilitate prompt check-in. I got assigned a disability-accessible room which I did not request and didn't want to stay in for a number of reasons, not the least of which was THERE WAS NO CLOSET!!! Pretty sure folks with disabilities like to hang up clothes. I requested a room change within minutes and was told they'd call me as soon as housekeeping was finished. To make a long story short, no one -- not the desk clerk or the manager on duty -- followed up with me. The next morning, a different manager on duty did apologize and comped my parking. She was professional and personable and saved this review. The hotel rooms are nice and they're clean. Linens are nice, beds comfy. The elevators don't run predictably -- had to walk down floors to catch one. The location is outstanding. The walls between the bathrooms were paper thin -- could hear conversations and flushing. This might be a good place to stay in 6 months or so, but there are a lot of kinks to be worked out before I'd give it another try.

Perfect location

This hotel is in the perfect location. Walking distance to everything, Navy Pier, Rush Street bars and restaurants and Michigan Street shopping. The rooms have spectacular views and are big and roomy. The only negative thing about this hotel is the parking. I arrived on a motorcycle and had to pay $60.00 a day for parking!! I could have parked it in a public parking garage 4 blocks away for $35.00 a day but it didn't include in-and-out privileges. So each time you took out your vehicle you had to pay the fee again to come back in. Just remember to bring lots of cash cause Chicago downtown area is VERY expensive.

Location was good other than you hear a lot of sirens because it's near a hospital. Room was clean however it leaned inward. I felt like we were staying in a fun house and made me want to throw up everytime I walked around. I would probably never stay there again for this reason. I'm not sure how it passes building code. We joked about rolling out of bed. Pool is no where near as nice as pictured online, but the view is amazing. Staff was great and free breakfast was great. Kitchen was great in the suite!
