Urban sophistication in River North

Guests at Courtyard by Marriot in Chicago's River North enjoy an ideal location a few blocks from the Magnificent Mile. Walk to Macy's, Nordstrom, Tiffany & Co. and other well-known stores, or taxi to Navy Pier, Millennium Park and Grant Park. The hotel's appeal exceeds shopping and sightseeing, however. Guests need not stray far for some of the best bars and restaurants in Chicago. Patrons can enjoy delicious Italian dishes at Davanti Enoteca and grab tasty doughnuts at Glazed and Infused on site. The Marriott name promises contemporary rooms, business and fitness centers and daily necessities.

Highlights
  • Located a few blocks from the Magnificent Mile in River North, a trendy nightlife and dining destination
  • Free Wi-Fi in all 335 rooms
  • Davanti Enoteca and Glazed and Infused restaurants on site
  • Indoor lap pool and fitness center
Rooms

The guest rooms and suites at Courtyard by Marriot could pass for downtown Chicago condos with their sleek furnishings, wood headboards and black and white photos of the skyline. Spacious baths and granite vanities further the upscale feel, while an ergonomic chair and wide desk provides comfort for bringing work projects back to the hotel room. Wi-Fi Internet access is complimentary. The hotel also touts larger rooms than the competition.

Features

In addition to free Wi-Fi access in all rooms, guests can also take advantage of a 24-hour business center to print documents or quickly access the Internet free of charge. Once those tasks are satisfied, head to the hotel's on-site Glazed and Infused for delicious doughnuts and enjoy delectable meals at Davanti Enoteca. The indoor pool and fitness center are open to all guests.

Large rooms, good location

Great location - Red Line subway stop is two blocks north, east-west bus stop is a block north on Illinois, Michigan Ave and the river are just two blocks away. Buy transit passes 3 blocks north in Jewel's. Lots of restaurants nearby (Shaw's Crab House is directly across Hubbard). Our "City View" toward the north was mostly blocked by the building across Illinois, leaving an uninspiring view toward the northwest. And we heard frequent sirens because of a fire station a block away on Illinois. Our room was a true suite -- frosted doors separated a somewhat cramped bedroom with two queen beds from a spacious second room with couch, desk, refrig, microwave -- lots of room for the price. The front desk staff was invariably friendly and helpful, and the attached Starbucks and State Street Bread Company were convenient for breakfast (there's an Einstein Bagel shop a block southwest for a cheaper breakfast). Minor quibbles: 1) No hair dryer in the room 2) No complimentary hand lotion, though there were other complimentary toiletries 3) Light switch for the shower/toilet room should have been inside the room, to avoid waking other sleepers in the middle of the night 4) Drinking fountain in lobby wasn't working If the sirens don't bother you, you'll probably feel that you got good value here!

Courtyard by Marriott Chicago DT-Rivr No

This was a good quality hotel. Good service. A very good location. Close to Navy Pier, children's interest locations, 7-11 was next door, and there were many quality resturaunts very near by. I would stay here again.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

You should take a shuttle to this hotel and taxi or walk to nearby locations. Parking a car will cost a significant amount of money each day and add to the trip cost. However, this is to be exspected in the city.

Great bargain in great spot.

Chose this hotel for proximity to Mich Ave shopping. Enjoyed welcoming, helpful staff both days; appreciated valet service holding car past check-out time. Not too busy, so quiet and restful. Only minor drawbacks: hotel restaurant small (but not important to us), and small lobby w/re amenities. Positives far outweigh slight downers. Would absolutely stay again.

good place to stay

Wonderful front desk staff - particularly one woman was very helpful with finding a tour, checking our baggage, and with valet parking. Great location, about 2 blocks from Michigan Ave.

Romantic Getaway

We flew to Chicago for a romantic weekend getaway. We thought Chicago was fantastic! The Marriott we stayed in was one of the worst. I hope some of these problem are fixed for future guests. Also, it wasn't anyone specific fault, but are flight was delayed a few times. Overall, the weekend seemed to be a lot of work and not as enjoyable as we would of preferred.

The restaurant Frontera off Clark, was amazing Mexican food. Be sure to make reservations well before you arrive.
