Long walk from hotel
plan out where you want to shop, and if you don't know the bus system, know that taxis within the city proper are only allowed to charge so much(not sure if it's still $10 or not).to go to midway,ohare(to/from)wrigley field or solider field these restrictions do not apply.

A Magnificent Stay
We visited the Art Institute, the Burnham display, and the Culture Center. We also rode the elevated, since we're mass transit fans- and so enjoyed seeing the improvements made on the Brown and Pink lines (Ravenswood and Douglas). Nothing really was missing from our trip. It was one of the best trips we've ever had to Chicago, and we've been visiting the city for nearly 40 years- for both recreation and business.

Time-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
I already have passed information on to friends who come to Chicago occasionally. The Congress Plaza is only a short walk from public transit (e.g. the "L"and buses), and attractive sites, like the Art Institute. Dining services are at hand nearby as well.

Unbeatable location for the price.
We went to Chicago just to relax and enjoy the city. For 5 days we did just that and loved it. The Congress is an old, charming hotel right on Grant Park, in front of Buckingham Fountain, and on the Chicago Lake front. We walked, took a one day guided tour, rode the Transit System (we bought a pass), and used some cabs. All travel in the city was easy, in-expensive, and pleasant. We visited The Art Institue, The Aquarium, The Museum of Natural History, and the Museum of Science and Industry, and Navy Pier. All museums are immense, exquisitly done, and are reasonably priced. They are all accessible by the public bus and the subway system. The Congress Hotel Staff was most helpful and accomodating. The Hotel ambiance, location, and staff all made the stay a REALLY PLEASANT EXPERIENCE.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Ask the Hotel staff for suggestions on where to go and how to get there. Buy a CTA Transit pass. (1-day, 3-day, 5-day, etc.) Go to the top of one of the really tall buildings. We ate at top of The John Hancock tower twice. We spent time in Millenium Park (Attended 2 free concerts.) and Grant Park. Both are clean, have beautiful flowers, and are safe.

Wonderful Weekend
Very short stay, but perfect for our needs. We attended a play at the Goodman Theatre, lunch at Harry Caray's and dinner at Morton's. All within walking distance from the Congress. We would stay at the Congress in the future.

Great STAY...
The website does NOT give this hotel JUSTICE! This place has a great view and its in walking distance of EVERYTHING! Please dont go by the frone view of the hotel...take my word-ITS GREAT! The Bell Service gentleman ([...]) was GREAT! The front desk staff (young ladies) were EXCELLENT! I never expected the room to be sooooo nice and roomy! It had a great appeal and the staff was GREAT-whenever I called and asked questions or needed anything...they came within 15mins! I have stayed at many hotels in many cities, but my next trip back to Chicago (in July) Ive already planned to stay at Congress Plaza! I was having 2nd thoughts but Im soooo GLAD I went with this hotel over all the "big" names on Michigan Ave. they didnt compare to this hotel...

Much better than expected
We were in Chicago for 2 days so we didn't spend a lot of time in the room but when we did, it was very homey, comfortable and quiet. We wanted a safe, pleasant environment and we got it. We felt fortunate to be so close to everything and we walked to the places we had planned to go to in the short time we were there. The staff was pleasant especially the guys storing the luggage, not so much at the counter, the ladies were not that friendly. that would probably be the only complaint. The lobby is beautifully decorated and there were many places to go and sit on the main floor. The parking system was a breeze and reasonable in price. We were thrilled with the 10% discount on the weekend and felt lucky to get a good rate so close to everything.

Great place to stay
This was a great place to stay especially for the price. It is an older hotel that is not brand new, but that was part of its' charm. The rooms were very clean, staff was friendly and efficient. The location was excellent for downtown Chicago and right across from Grant Park and the lake. You can pay more for a park view if you want. Our room looked out on the city and the El. I loved it, and did not think it was noisy for being in the middle of a city. This was our first time in Chicago and the staff was very helpful in getting us around town. I will definitly stay here again and recommend it to friends.
