A nice old hotel
Congress plaza is a nice old hotel. It need some work as most hotels its age do. The location was great, the price was right, and most of the staff was very nice. Our only complaint was that we were unable to control the temperature in our room. The ancient heating system blows all hot air, all the time. We were able to remedy this problem by opening the window. I will definitely stay at this hotel again.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
There were 2 great restaurants that we found within 3 blocks. Tavern at the park ($$$) and eleven city diner ($). The wildfire steakhouse ($$$) was also amazing and that is about a 9 minute cab ride away.

Enjoyed the Congress
Congress in January is empty. Room rate was best in that location (Michigan Ave.). Parking at $39 is a rip. I would have enjoyed a real chair in the room. Within walking distance to great food. I was there one night on business, so the only time I spent in the room was sleeping. I like that you can open the windows.

Great anniversary getaway
Great experience. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Staff was very nice. Fantastic location! This is a beautiful old hotel. It is no frills, but worth the money. This was my fourth stay at the Congress, and I will go back. Beware though, parking is $35 a day with validation ($39 without).

Miller's Pub is great. Walk west on Congress to Wabash. Walk north on Wabash to Miller's on the right. About a four block walk.

Elusive
grand old hotel, a bit down at the heels
I love this hotel, partly because it is old and reminds one of a bygone era. The location is fabulous. It's clean but hasn't been remodeled since the 1950s, so if you need everything to be brand spanking new you won't enjoy it. Nice bar with original copper top. Rooms are relatively large for a big city hotel and many of the rooms have views of Grant Park and the lake. My only complaint is that my room was too hot and I couldn't turn the heat down or off, only the fan.

Elusive
location, faded grandeur
I love the Congress Plaza because of the location, the size and comfort of the rooms, and the views. It's a grand old hotel and unbeatable for the price. Under $100 on Michigan Ave. overlooking Grant Park--great! Some people will find it too old-fashioned, and maybe a little ragged, but I love it. The bar is also classic and gorgeous. Friendly service.
