great time

I had a great time and my hotel had easy access to getting around Chicago. It was near many sites within walking distance, which is the best way to see Chicago. I loved the rustic look and how the hotel was classy but old.

Hotel Review

The Congress Plaza is right on Michigan Avenue and very convenient to everything downtown. The hotel is older but reasonably well maintained. Bathroom was nicely update and the room was clean, neat, and also updated. I did not have the opportunity to try the hotel restaurant but it looked appealing, both in choices and prices. Parking is expensive at $41 per night, but not more than the majority of downtonw hotels. Overall, it was good value for the money. I would come again and recommend it to others.

Great Chicago Location

The rooms were bigger than expected (very clean) and I had a lovely view of Grant Park (downtown). The hotel is close to the water front and only a 15 minute can ride to Wriggley field. The only point of contention is that the mattress was hard as a rock. I suppose you could say that it is good for one's back, but I found myself stiff as board in the morning. Otherwise I was very pleased with the location, staff and recommendation.

Good weekend getaway

Our checkin was delayed about a hour but I believe this was due to the strike by the hotel workers. They accomodated our request for a lake view which may also delayed the checkin. The staff was very friendly & helpful answering any questions we may have had. Great view of the park & lake but be prepared to walk a little farther to downtown because the hotel is on the southern side of Chicago. Overall a very pleasant stay. Nice rooms, great views & helpful staff.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

Grant Park is directly across the street with multiple attractions to enjoy (art, music, nightlife, sports ect). Navy pier (a must see) is a little bit of a hike but a pleasant walk along the lake. Shopping district also a bit of a hike but we made it part of a loop walk with the pier.

Very nice hotel for money and location

The Congress Plaza hotel was very nice and clean. The hotel staff was great and there were no major problems. This hotel is near everything. It is right across the street from Grant Park. It is also walking distance to the Miracle Mile. We also could walk to just about everywhere ( Hancock Tower, Sears Tower, Lake etc.)and it was only a city block from the Library train station which is on the Orange Line which comes straight from Midway airport. There are also many public buses that go down the street in front of hotel. I would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I stayed here ...

My wife and I stayed here for a quick visit in August. We stayed two nights. I was a little skeptical after seeing all the bad reviews but we decided to give it a shot, it's only two nights. The hotel is certainly old, and some things reflect that, however we DID NOT encounter any problems with service from the staff. Check in was quick and friendly, they brought up extra pillows within ten minutes of us calling for them, room service was faster than I thought, and check-out was also quick. The room itself was smaller than I'm used to, and we were on the city side without much of a view, but we did get a less expensive room. The elevators and hallways were clean and well lit.
