Good Value

This hotel was inexpensive for Chicago, and I'm sure the reason is that it is LOUD. Bring earplugs. Our room was directly outside the el and overlooked construction. It was fairly clean, but when I got there, they were trying to clean out smoke from a previous occupant (told I was getting a non-smoking room). I wasn't happy. Also it's eco-friendly so you have to ask for extra towels or to have new towels or your linens changed. While I'm all for the environment and saving money, that's super inconvenient on a family vacation. Other than that, the continental breakfast was nice, the bathrooms were clean, and it was only a short train ride or bus ride to anywhere. People were nice and helpful. I'd stay again.

Awesome location

This hotel is in a perfect location - the neighorhood has lots to do, and it is literallys steps from the Belmont Station. While in an older building, the facility is clean and decent - nothing special, but with room suites. Staff is friendly and helpful.

great location

Great location in a vibrant neighborhood. Be sure to ask for a room that does not face the train station which is rright next to the hotel. Small but comfortable room. Room AC units noisy but toleraable.

Great area near boystown

City Suites is a little dated but overall a good property. I was a little worried because it is next door to the train station but my room was all the way in the back of the hotel and I never heard the trains at all! The location of this hotel is first rate and the staff is very good!

A for Effort

Charming, old hotel. Can't beat it for proximity to the El, it's right next door. If you're looking for a quiet getaway, City Suites is not for you. The El runs all night with constant announcements. I live near a train, so I hardly noticed after a bit. My queen room was pretty small. Room for my bed, a desk, tv, armoire, and mini-fridge set up. With only luggage for one, it was pretty cramped. I couldn't imagine sharing the room with someone else, but perhaps I just got the tiniest room in the joint. Plus it was hotter than Hades and the window a/c battled the old radiator nightly. The bathroom was clean and looked to be recently renovated. The room is complete with a tray and fridge filled with tempting treats and drinks. The tv also serves as a computer, but I'm sure it cost an arm and a leg, so I didn't try it. Driving to Chicago, I expected to pay a lot for parking. The hotel will give you a pass to park in the garage around the corner. At $22/day, it wasn't a bad deal, especially when compared to parking at Navy Pier for a few hours. Park in front of the hotel to unload, leave your car in the garage, and walk or take the El everywhere. Clarke's is across the street and open 24 hours. Good food, music, and service. Around the corner is Cesar's, home of the killer margarita. Oh yeah, those were delish! And the food wasn't bad either. There's tons of eclectic shops and restaurants in the area.

Good location

Great location, right next to subway, easy 10 mintues to downtown loop. Hotel is older, and small, creaky rooms. I went in late Fall when weather was cooler (low 40's), and the only heat was a window unit (airconditioner/heater), which was not very efficient. In fact, when we turned in out, it blew a fuse in the room. I think the location makes it a great find, but they need to do simple upkeep.

Friendly service, good location

I wished there would have been valet parking. The nearest parking garage was a few blocks away, and not very convenient. I had to ask for clean towels on the second day, and the room was very small, but otherwise OK.

Great Location

Have stayed at City Suites 3 times now. Location is great and within walking distance to all Wrigleyville/Lakeview attractions, Wrigley Field, Halsted Stret, Lakefront. Look forward to returning again, next time I'm in Chicago.

Good value for tourists.

The hotel is located in a lively, somewhat funky, but safe, neighborhood, with lots of nearby shopping and eating options. The subway is located just a few feet away, and is only a twenty minute ride downtown. But it is much more fun and more interesting to stay here than in the loop or near north. The subway, however, creates the only drawback. Rooms facing the subway - which is elevated at this point are rather noisy, but is helped somewhat if you run the window air conditioner as a fan. This might not be a problem if you get a room facing east - rooms facing north look out on a rather busy street. Otherwise, the room was spotless, homey and very spacious, though not with the last word in carpeting and furnishing. Service was fine. There is a decent continental breakfast, but there are so many good eating options right outside the door! It would be nice if the hotel had some internet capability for those who do not bring a PC or laptop with them.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

One coffee shop across the street, another down the block with good breakfast specials. All sorts of ethnic restaurants within a block or two and many bars, catering to a young, hip, crowd within a few blocks.

My review of City Suites Hotel Chicago

This is a small hotel-no amenities to speak of. Very convenient to the El. Friendly staff. Nothing fancy. If you're looking for a place to sleep and don't plan to spend any time at the hotel, this would work.
